Hope you don't actually PICK your spears K .i always use a proper knife ,cutting them just below the surface to prevent bugs being attracted to the broken surfaces by the smell, but a good sharp knife used with care will do too, mine are now a few days away from the first harvest as well ,yum. :-D

Good to Hear Lesley ,mine are doing well too ,for up here in the cold, don't forget to choose a few small ones when the time comes to take your own seeds for next year.
Pleased someone else is giving them a go as there is now a small pool in case one of us drops a clanger and needs to restock ,one to the other.
Noticed that the italian ones are doing very well too ,a plum variety ,the ones from Dolmio will not be going in until next year. :-D

I won't foreget Fred, I planted 5 of the Dolmio seeds only 1 has germinated and it does look a strong plant.

Purple sprouting K know your talking I love it, one of my friends drinks the water that the sprouting has been cooked in, uhg.

Not too keen on the sprouting and prefer the Calabrese ,the variety that gives a big main head ,then produces side shoots until mid November ,so i could ,and will substitute that for the tart making ,lol.
Parsnips are a must in this house ,used for many dishes ,including parsnip and curried Swede soup [a real belter].
Just put my Brussel and Calabrese plants out today ,and all my Tomato are well away ,with enough Sugar plum left for putting out in the garden in big buckets ,head cut out to produce bushes
Looks like my cabbages will be ready to transplant as soon as i get back from my week in Oxfordshire.oh ,and i have just had my wrist slapped for nicking one of the Asparagus heads from the garden ,caught by God ,eating it raw .slurp . ;-) :-D
