Silly Sausage Report 16 Dec 2012 22:53

In my opinion the actions of the RR are that of a cowardly bully :-D

KempinaPartyhat Report 16 Dec 2012 22:56

Can I ask who is RR the threads could someone pm me if you dont feel like name and shaming ...there dont seem any point at all to have a general chat if it keeps being deleted we may as well be in china!!!

Susan,

Usually I shrug off the odd RR, but I have lost count in the last 24 hours, between 15 and 20 I guess (can't be bothered to check). Get's a bit tedious when they are totally innocent, makes a mockery of the word 'chat' and we pay for the privilege of being gagged!

So I await a response to the missive I sent tonight :-D

Any free site I have used has had moderator so why not one that is being paid for?

It is not just this board, the Find ancestors or Living reletives need looking at also...dob's and personal details of living people that could just be edited out rather than someone just pushing the button to have the thread removed

To be honest I haven't been about as much as usual so haven't seen the latest RRing although I have noticed a couple of deleted OPs. Any others must be on threads I avoid so wouldn't see them anyway.

Anyone can read the GR posts, but unless they subscribe they cannot 'join in'. Therefore it is very very annoying that GR should allow such voyeurs the 'privilege to RR a post, when it would be quite easy to block such actions (but, of course, that means a little bit of time re-jigging a tiny bit of the programme and, ooooh, a few quid too, tsk).
However, the variation of posts receiving RR's in the last 48hrs does seem to indicate 'an insider' (shiver!!!!) :-P

RR awaited..... :-\

I don't no if you are aware that the boards are supposed to be monitored 7 days a week

see the thread that Joy posted "When threads or posts are reported: inconsistency" on the suggestions board and the answer given by Estelle 4 Dec 2012 15:19

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/suggestions/thread/1315256

also same thread 4 Dec 2012 16:44 and 10 Dec 2012 11:46

lolol MrDaff we have mentioned IP addys before, bit too much of an effort. Funny that init when you can customise your website reports to the nth degree nowadays.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 17 Dec 2012 10:43

The problem for any web site is that they have a legal defense so long as they don't moderate the board a priori. If they start to moderate it then legally they become the publisher and can be sued for anything posted and copyright infringement on top if applicable to the post. Defending libel actions is expensive. If the moderators are working for free it makes no difference as they are agents of the web site.

The world has always had people who like to express themselves with graffiti, slashing seats, wrecking flowerbeds, starting brawls in bars, driving an inch behind the guy in front and so on. The internet is no different. I once worked as a volunteer in a mental health facility. One of the doctors said that half the world is mad but nobody knows which half. He also said that a lot of people ( it was the 1970s ) were diagnosed as being nuts simply for having a different point of view. I like to think we have moved on a bit since then but on reflection probably not.

It is difficult to see how GRU could order things in any other way given the legal constraints. The only obvious improvement would be to review referrals more quickly.

T&C are of course another matter and mostly fall outside of s5. For my 2c the term in the standard conditions that other family history web sites cannot be discussed is pretty silly. I had a post dropped - by GRU - simply for asking if another well known site was up or not!

I too am disappointed by the way in which the Facebook site is run.

I'm surprised that GR have not reinstated it yet, and the other inoffensive posts that have also been RRd

Despite GR saying the boards are monitored 7 days a week it looks like 5 days is also too much trouble,
