For tonight, I have haggis, fruit pudding, shortbread, Tunnocks caramel wafers and chocolate teacakes and Irn Bru.

Living as I do in England, I like my English friends to sample some Scottish fare.

And I have a good supply of Malt Whisky.

I've just watched some of the 2014 Edinburgh tattoo.

I'm bamboozled by the display put on by NZ Maori & Scottish dancers.......... I couldn't make head nor tail of it. Completely confusing!

I'll have to email cousins in NZ who are Scottish/Maori and ask them.

Did anyone watch it?

LadyScozz Report 21 Jan 2015 21:21

does anyone use the Glasgow guide?

www.glasgowguide.co.uk

I found it a few days ago (when I was googling some family names), and found a message on one of the boards, someone looking for people........and I can help.

I registered two days ago, but I still can't respond to the message. :-(

Well done, LadyScozz,

I'm sure some people will appreciate your offer of help.

I've looked in on it LadyScozz but I've never registered on the site

Here's another one that I like
http://www.glescapals.com

I found my dad and his siblings in the old school photos on it
My dad was about 8 or 9 in the photo. I had never seen chidhood pics of him before, but it's definitely him.
He has exactly the same face as my sister did when she was that age LOL
Dad was born in 1918, my sister in 1952 !

I was born in Glasgow :-) At Bellshill hospital.

But...... we didn't live in Glasgow. I think women in those days were sent to the nearest available hospital. Two brothers were born in other Lanarkshire hospitals (Calderbank & Lanark), the next brother was born at home....... and the next was born in Australia.

Yup, four brothers. I only talk to one of them. One is feral, one is always angry, and the other one is too difficult to cope with.

:-(

I tried the GlasgowGuide website again...... and still can't post! I know it can take a few days for the registration to be approved, but this is getting annoying.

Geez, it's one of those websites that has moderators........ your post won't appear until it has been approved. Also applies to joining..... that took three days!

I'm responding to a post from about April last year... who knows where those people are now.

This could take a while.

It's a peculiar site....... I've tried to add to discussions, but I'm "not allowed"..... and tried to add an avatar......... "not allowed"

:-S

me again............ wi' a wee joke...........

:-)

An English doctor was being shown around a Scottish hospital. Near the end of his visit, he saw a ward of patients with no obvious injuries.

He started to examine the first patient, but the man proclaimed:

"Fair fa' yer honest, sonsie face / Great chieftain o' the puddin' race!"

The doctor, taken aback, moved on to the next patient, who immediately said,

"Some hae meat and canna eat / And some wad eat that want it."

The next patient cried out,

"Wee sleekit cow'rin tim'rous beastie / O what a panic's in thy breastie!"

"Well," the English doctor muttered to his Scottish colleague, "I see you saved the psychiatric ward for last."

"Oh, no," said the Scottish doctor.

"This is our serious Burns unit!"
