I used to work with a very snobby woman who name-dropped constantly. Always going on about the her toffy friends, and how they were from "a very old family" :-(

One day I told her my Mother was from a very old family.

Really dear, what was her maiden name?

Adam, you can't get much older than that.

She was not impressed.

:-D

Stupid expression anyway, we're all from very old families.

This reminds me of a conversation I had quite recently, with a 10yr old boy.
I worked in a school.

Child: "Hey Mrs, how dae ye spell.. but"
Me: " B.U.T."
Child: "Naw,... the other but"
Me: B.U.T.T ( like the butt of something?)
Child: "Naw... the other but"
Me: What is your sentence?

Child:" Ma pal's dug but ma airm"

DH laughs when I tell him some of the words we used as children in Scotland.

His favourite......... me being sent to the shop on Sunday for the weekly treat of a bottle of soft drink.......(which had to be carefully measured into glasses, so that all the kids got EXACTLY the same)

Shopkeeper: Whitye wantin?

Me: A bottle of ginger

Shopkeeper: whit sort?

Me: Raspberry

An exciting day well celebrated on this thread. :-(

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 30 Nov 2015 22:55

Did all you Scots living in Scotland have a celebration?

I knew it was St Andrew's Day yesterday, but didn't do anything special.

A few years ago I wore a tartan ribbon in my hair...... and got a few weird comments...:-D

I would have worn a blue & white ribbon, but I didn't have one....... and there isn't a ribbon shop anywhere near me. :-D :-D :-D

Robert

Robert Report 1 Dec 2015 10:39

I had haggis, neeps and tatties followed by Tunnocks (plain) caramel wafers washed down with Barrs Iron Brew.

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 1 Dec 2015 11:35

We did nothing special here either.

Maybe because we are older, it is not the same and
the young ones in our family don't seem to do anything
different on this day, shame really but that's how it is these days.

A wee bit of Scottish poetry :-D .........

Ah'm gon baldy
Ah cannae believe it!
Ma hair's fawin oot
'N' ah cannae retrieve it.

It disnae maitter
Where Ah'm comin' or gaunfie
Ah jist cannae stoap it
Comin' oot by the haunfie.

Ah'm dreadin' the sunshine
Doon the street Ah'll proceed
An' blin' the hale toon
Wi' mah big shiny heid.

Dinnae ken how Ah'll cope wi'
This hert-breakin' pain
(Tae rub saut in the wound
Mah saikint name's 'Bain')

:-D

It's not me goin' baldy! My baldy brother found this :-D

Have you seen the addition to the "Welcome To Larkhall" sign?

It appeared on my FB page a few weeks ago and of course it could only happen in Larkhall

EDIT:
Not suitable for GR so I've Pm'd it to you
