I just paid a subscription to this site late last night and read this message before going to sleep, and looked for news today after sleeping in. Word seems to be slow coming out. I will be hoping for the best for your son Annie and everyone else in the typhoon's path.

Hope all are safe - it looks horrendous on the news.... and we whinge about a bit of a breeze and a shower

Annie, I expect it is difficult to make contact when the wind has damaged power lines etc but I hope you will get good news very soon of your son and his friends and colleagues. I can imagine what a state you must be in after seeing the tv pictures of the dreadful weather. I can't imagine what it must look like to see those winds tearing through and past everything.

My friend is HCMCity Vietnam waiting for the typhoon to hit there, he was on FB 2 hrs ago and all ok then.

He's all right! We had a text message from him a short while ago. He'd managed to find a signal somewhere. The island was badly hit and the eastern side has been destroyed. He's on the west. Everyone there is all right. His house has lost part of the roof and a window and it's difficult getting about because of the debris and fallen power lines. I don't think I've ever felt such relief but I feel so sorry for those who have nothing left.

Thank you for all your good wishes and concern. It helped me a lot to talk to you.

Oh annie, thank goodness for that. so sorry for those who have lost family members, and for those who have lost their homes. But very pleased for you that your son is ok, roofs can be rebuilt. <3

What a relief for you....but as you say,so sad for others who are left devastated and without their homes. X x ;-)

We are still waiting for news from my brother and family.

My Niece phoned the Home Office this morning but they had no news.

Oh, Fly, I know what you're going through. Lets' hope lines of communication can be restored quickly and you hear something very soon. My son had no idea how it had affected the rest of the country because they were cut off completely. We had to tell him. They have no mains water or power but no-one's complaining. They think themselves very lucky. They are washing in sea water and eating rice. The east coast is only four hundred metres away from him but has been completely destroyed because the winds came from that direction. He said there was an eerie calm when the eye passed over them. It was absolutely still but they knew what was to come after that.

Edit: Fly, just a thought. When we were searching for any information yesterday I put Boracay Island typhoon into Google and it came up with some people who were managing to send out information from hotels etc. They were keeping an updated blog as far as they were able. It might be worth a try if you know the name of the island.
