AnninGlos Report 19 Feb 2014 16:01

When life is so cheap. A lovely young 20 year old girl from our village stabbed (I think) to death as she worked as a hairdresser in Gloucester yesterday evening. 22 year old male held in custody. So difficult to believe in a normal street in a normal town. I didn't know her but her parents must be devastated, my thoughts go out to them.

Horrific isn't it and so very sad for her family and, to a lesser degree, the family of whoever stabbed her :-(

AnninGlos Report 19 Feb 2014 16:54

And her colleagues and customers Kitty as they were working at the time. .we had to walk past there this morning, well round the police cordon of course, it is a tiny shop so they must have all be there with her. They must be traumatised.

I agree Ann that it is a sad world and it does bring it home when things like that happen in as you say a normal street in a normal town. Please nobody jump on either myself or Ann for that comment because I understand what she means. We were all taught when young the dangers of "the big city" I was also warned about the dangers of Sheffield at night, but spending time and hanging out there during the day was okay.

These days nowhere seems safe, Yes it´s a sad world when life means so little and the consequences of being caught are no longer a deterrent to the crime committed.

RIP Holly

I understand that this poor girl HAD been in a relationship with this young man - I can only suppose that as he couldn't have her, he was making sure no-one else could either! Completely dreadful, poor girl and her poor poor parents. Of course he will go to prison, but be out before too long, for her parents of course it is a REAL life sentence, a complete tragedy.

AnninGlos Report 19 Feb 2014 17:41

I had not seen that magpie. I did see that they were known to each other so guessed that may be the case.

Uzzi, yes you are right. All towns are normal with normal streets and Gloucester is no more safe than the next place. In fact we have had our share of 'nasties' including the Fred West case of course. But normally these things seem to take place away from the shopping centre and in parts of town we wouldn't normally go. Quite a shock to see all the murder enquiry tent, tape etc in one of the cross streets where we often walk through.

That's why I say bring back hanging, once they have their neck stretched
at least they can't do it again.

dreadful - how can anyone get over the death of a child

I don't know what the sentence is for carrying a knife, but it should be at least 10 years, even if no crime has been committed with it

Ann.. The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years
in prison and a fine of £5,000.
but It's usually a slap on the wrist and told not to be a naughty boy or girl.

it was so sad to read this in an on-line newspaper .......

....... and that he was indeed her ex-boyfriend in an on and off relationship that she finally ended for good in mid-January.

Seems Hollie was probably stabbed with her own scissors. How tragic for her and her family, friends and colleagues. Why can't people understand that when a relationship has run it's course, there is no good to come out of threats and such?

Seems members of the public took pics of the medics working on Hollie, which is sick, and police are asking them not to put the pics on social networks. Why would someone want to do that?

Rest in peace Hollie.

AnninGlos Report 20 Feb 2014 09:23

When we walked past yesterday there were quite a few members of the public, mostly young, pointing their phones at the white tent over the doorway. I had to admire the police officer who was there to talk to the press. One young girl pointed her phone right at his face and he didn't flinch or say anything. Not only a sad world but a strange one too.

Magpie Report 20 Feb 2014 13:19

Taking photo's of an 'incident' scene is quite beyond me. a completely weird/macabre thing to do. As for capitol punishment, OH and I often discuss this and I think both us feel 'no', instinctively, we feel, yes hang the swine, BUT, are we not reducing ourselves to the level of these awful people? I have to admit I don't really know, but I always think of Edward Evans(?) in the Christy case, and what an awful miscarriage of justice that was.; Obviously there were plenty more, and once someone is dead - well they're dead, if you see what I mean. Killed with her own scissors? Oh how terrible.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 20 Feb 2014 14:51

But, according to the TV news at lunch time she wasn't, killed by her own scissors that is. Seems somehow the papers have been given wrong information and it was a knife which the police have. Doesn't make it any better except if it had been the scissors he may have had a manslaughter defence but if it was a knife he carried, that makes a difference to his offence.
