As some of you will be aware, OH and myself are currently enjoying a few days in Esperance on the South coast of Western Australia.

Apart from the really magnificent coastline, one of the strangest things we have seen is a replica of Stonehenge.

The even stranger part is that ie is constructed close to a main road, which is littered with a plethora of No Stopping and No Parking signs on the road on either side of the structure. These are official signs to prevent people taking photos from their cars.

Additionally, the operators of the site have constructed a wooden fence running along the site at a height of about 1,8 - 2.00metres high (6' - 8')

Entry is $10.00.

Even stranger, then is their website:

Why go to all that trouble and then post a perfect picture for all to see :-S :-S

Looks a bit peculiar, too perfect.

Is it lined up to see the rising sun etc etc ?

I don't think I'll be flying across the country to see it.

:-D

It's supposed to be, Scozz.

From what I remember of the original, it occupies a much larger site than the Oz collection of stones (which may be painted polystyrene :-D :-D)

Even if it's meant to be 1950BC, ie when new(ish, it's eerily 'perfect. '
You'd have thought the odd stonemason could have got their hands on the stones, instead of a modern machine :-|

LadyScozz Report 2 Mar 2014 22:24

maybe they built it with Hebel ?

:-(

We have a stone circle in the back garden........ not as impressive as Stonehenge, but I like it! Poor OH had to lug great big rocks around to make me happy..... isn't he wonderful :-D

Next time you're in my neighbourhood, and it's full moon, bring your robe and we'll have a dance lol

Enjoy your holiday :-D

There's a distinct lack of Druids in WA :-D

Maggie, there's a bit more to this. The structure was originally going to be built in another Council area, but the Council refused permission, so the current owners purchase all the materials, lock stock and barrel .

How anyone can say that is an exact replica of how Stonehenge looked like over four thousand years ago I don't know.

As for the finish, well, I suppose that the Egyptians used dressed sandstone as a facing for the Pyramids, but perfectly dressed stone???

On another thread someone suggested that the henge could be used to sacrifice a virgin.

I just laughed and said that they are very difficult to find here. ;-) :-D

We bring gold (Allan), lovely perfumed frankincense (Dermot) and myrrh, the stuff that you embalm mummies with and gets in every orifice. :-) :-)
