Ah, John. You would really be at home in WA: demolish all the old historic buildings and then erect a plaque saying 'Here stood.....' fill in the detail:-D

As much as I detest Alan Bond, at least he preserved the old buildings in Fremantle. He created the Notre Dame University, and all the colleges are housed in the old buildings, which, out of term time, are open to the public :-)

Original (that you crawl past in traffic jams on A303) is, to be honest, a bit old and dated now and doesn't reflect the Britain that visitors want to see. I would be all for residential development on that site (above flood plain, not far from Greater London) and perhaps build a replica of old Stonehenge out of lego and place it next to the concrete cows in our modern cultural mecca that is called Milton Keynes Central ;-)

Well John, as the embalmers might say...another hard day at the orifice :-D

Dermot, I have seen the original, which is why I'm questioning the copy :-)

Oz has its own unique culture which occurred long before European 'settlement' so why someone would wish to bring a not very good model of European culture from a different period into the country, other than for monetary reasons, I have no idea.

The word anachronistic springs to mind: totally out of time, not to mention culture.

just wondering

Is there a "stonehenge" at Legoland?

:-D

Dermot

Dermot Report 3 Mar 2014 10:22

Come on over to view the original.

Plenty of time & opportunities to take photos as you crawl along in the never-ending rubber-necking traffic queue on the A303.

We bring gold (Allan), lovely perfumed frankincense (Dermot) and myrrh, the stuff that you embalm mummies with and gets in every orifice. :-) :-)

On another thread someone suggested that the henge could be used to sacrifice a virgin.

I just laughed and said that they are very difficult to find here. ;-) :-D

It's very odd!- Too perfect:-S

Allan

Allan Report 2 Mar 2014 22:31

There's a distinct lack of Druids in WA :-D

Maggie, there's a bit more to this. The structure was originally going to be built in another Council area, but the Council refused permission, so the current owners purchase all the materials, lock stock and barrel .

How anyone can say that is an exact replica of how Stonehenge looked like over four thousand years ago I don't know.

As for the finish, well, I suppose that the Egyptians used dressed sandstone as a facing for the Pyramids, but perfectly dressed stone???
