Wend Report 27 Apr 2014 21:36

. . . My son and d-i-l intend to call their expected baby daughter Juno.

What do you think?

Wend

Wend Report 27 Apr 2014 21:38

Tell me honestly, because I know what I think :-(

Juno

Ummmmmm..........let me fink.

Maybe it will grow on me???

Wend

Wend Report 27 Apr 2014 21:51

That's what my youngest daughter thought Prickles, until I gave her my opinion.

I think she could be teased at school . . .

Example - What's your name? Answer - Juno. Reply - No, I don't, that's why I'm asking. :-(

MR_MAGOO Report 27 Apr 2014 21:55

No doubt you have Googled it but for others...........

Chose names for our two girls that couldn't be shortened.

SueMaid Report 27 Apr 2014 22:56

I guess it's not for us to question what our children choose as names for their children but I really don't like the name Juno. Perhaps they will change their minds. Thankfully my grandchildren have very simple names.

Wend

Wend Report 27 Apr 2014 23:02

Their other possible choice is Eva . . . I'm saying a little prayer :-)

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 27 Apr 2014 23:14

Eva is a lovely name - fingers crossed :-)

Wend

Wend Report 27 Apr 2014 23:18

If it was a boy - it would have been Ridley because Sir Ridley Scott is evidently a cousin of my d-i-l's family.

I don't think my wonderful son, Tom, has a say in this naming business, actually :-(

They haven't actually asked me yet what I think and I don't know what I'm going to say when they do. Knowing me, I shall have to be honest :-(

well you know what Juno will get called :-D

(look up ...)

I had a good friend at uni called Aino ... a Latvian name ... pronounced of course "Aye No"

what's your name?
Aino
of course you do ... now tell me ...

me I think we can point fingers at anybody who names their child something just because it was in a movie or a vampire series on television or some celebrity made it up ...

I ran into someone recently who was considering calling their child Jaxon ... I was horrified, what is that, something from Star Wars? then I realised it was just a perversion of Jackson probably, and the GRO index now shows 201 of them.

uh oh, I am not alone ...

http://www.behindthename.com/name/jaxon/comments

including the short and sweet 'Perfect for the illiterate and the chronic texter.'
my thoughts exactly

oh look, somebody says you can even spell a simple name like Ava 'Ayvah' - watch out !!

I wonder what all the poor babies named Mafeking in 1901 ended up being called during their lives?

by their middle names if they were lucky enough to have one I would surmise!

JoonieCloonie Report 28 Apr 2014 00:02

well my paternal grandfather did always call my mum 'Rita' because he thought she looked like Ms Hayworth :-)

fortunately she didn't call me that :-D

(nothing against the name !! just don't want to be named for a movie star)

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 28 Apr 2014 00:09

Wend you could tell them these

http://www.behindthename.com/name/juno/comments

'I love this name, but I would never use it for a child because it is my dog's name.'

'Of course, I will never name my child that because she'll be known as the girl named after the pregnant teenager'

and you were right ...

'As a child, I had a parrot that said, "You know who!" (this was all he said for many years), but it came out, "Junohoo!" Thus, Juno became his name.'

O.h.'s first grandchild is Eva. Her father hates his Christian name which was chosen by his mother, and told me when they named their son, that they wanted a name that would sound good at job interviews. Talk about thinking ahead lol
He is Maxwell, but called Max. The surname is a very common one. My son's gf's son is also called Max. It gets very confusing.

I like different names that don't show the age of the person in years to come, all those Kylies and such will be in the same age group now. Much rather a timeless name and not one in vogue right now.

I have a relative who called her baby boy Tosh, which I thought was a nickname but he is registered with that name.

I am not sure I would want to be called Juno. I have a list ready for my son and his gf when/if they start producing grandchildren lol - whether they will be interested in my list is another thing lol

There are so many names to chose from and I am sure your son and d.i.l. could find something else unusual but more appealing. There will always be someone to take the mickey out of name or change it to something cheeky or unkind, or even just funny. It's also important to consider the initials of the full name, one of my Uncles who was a bit of an entrepeneur was F.A.T.

Hope things go well for little one's birth and the name is chosen that suits her to a T. I had a list of several names and didn't know whether I was having a boy or a girl, it took me two or three days to make up my mind which name suited my son, but he is happy with it and it's not very common or 'dateable'

I see nothing wrong with the name - are not many of our names derived from Greek and Roman gods/godesses?

Juno, I believe, was the Roman goddess of childbirth amongst other things - an absolutely lovely name and far better than some of the utter tripe people seem to be basing names on in recent times.

LOL My daughters name,(my choice) was Debra, after Debra Paget......and second middle name after Caron,(Leslie) Caron,

first middle name was Jean, her mothers name

must admit that in early school, she had problems with a teacher that insisted that Debra wasn't spelling her names correctly,
ie Deborah and Karen
