Take time to appreciate the people who have helped you on GR

many people have found out so many things + gone beyond the call of duty in my quests ;

i'm only posting about 1 for now + feel confident that there will be posts about my other particular helpers .

Marie-celeste my heroine (on all mine +alisouns threads); not only does she find amazing details ;but words her findings careful enough for GR virgins.
But when we got protocol wrong she "tells us off" in a the most diplomatic ,positive way encouraging improved etiquette without critisism .

she reckons she does tell people where to go sometimes but I haven't come across any examples of this ; + I loved our chat about "artistic" postcards of 1906 or was that jax ??
Haven't reread that 1 for a while .

I'll be sending off my finished article about finding nana's Russian birth father

EDIT Dec 2014 ; research kept expanding this article into a 2-parter

part 1 ""Finding Mr Fellman" nearly ready

I would like to include a link to my thread on GR if admin + all contributary members give permission

;so if you contributed to my George J.Fellman search in any way ; you may want to edit yr wording +/or delete non-contributary posts such as "oh you've already got that ;"

Am looking forward to a M-C style right rollicking about encouraging editing .LOL
I understand her disapproval of editing posts.
But some of my insomniacal postings + dyslexically,verbosely, unpunctuated, incomprehensible sentences need editing from time to time

LONG LIVE THE DUCHESSE OT THE Geanealogy Wizards .!

Brigid, I have not seen you on the chat board before so hello to you. I just wanted to say how lovely to see somebody making a genuine appreciation of help from a member post. :-)

Morning Brigid - I have also been helped by many individuals on here with my family research, too many to mention, but suffice to say if it was not for their assistance my family tree would be miniscule compared to the size it is now, I will always be full pf admiration & praise for those on here who give their time freely to help others <3

MarieCeleste Report 29 Apr 2014 20:08

I've been pointed in the direction of this thread.

The first thing I must say is that I haven't paid Brigid to do this!! I am dead chuffed, but a bit embarrassed too - sitting here blushing. But I do have to say that there were quite a few people who helped on the Fellman threads, not just me.

I don't help people on the boards to get praise or thanks (although appreciation is nice), I do it because I love the research and I've also learned a lot from the many other helpers along the way.

In this instance, I'll say nowt about editing ;-)

Thank you <3

Have to give big thanks to Alemap as being the person to suggest looking at Alien registration documents circa WW 1 for a foreign born ancestor ;
We now all have an enlargement of the 1917 photo of our well-dressed Great -Grandfather . Sometimes a helpful suggestion leads to more than just uncovering a fact .

brigid Report 24 May 2014 12:20

Special Thanks to Rootgatherer for saving me money on extra documents by posting details which showed I would have been going on wild geese chases ;
+ appreciation for whenever Sylvialncanada reminded me not to jump to assumptions + find proper links ..amazimgly they did turn up in most instance in the Fellman story ,
It's great that so many of you are in different countries so if I am on line early am or late at night there is invariably someone awake ;
Anncardiff, Jax ,Mersey + lynsky we have had some chats before when I was under my sister Alisoun's identity ; I believe your personalities shine through your posts + all the personal comments make the whole experience of searching feel safer for newcomers + more fun + rather inspiring that total strangers could be interested in My family history .

many thanks to SAFC who comes up with census + other facts really quickly.
As for Kucinta her historical context comments added to facts or suppositions are really useful .

pls keep naming + praising .The GR members are a modest lot but it's good to give a few reminders of when + how they have helped us ...to make up for the people who forget to thank .

Huge Appreciation to Argyll/gran she has found Scottish births deaths and now an emigration record so i'm on my way to finding out if my father had any american cousins
from reading other threads i gather she uses her own credits to help people .
I love her determination to get to the bottom of mysteries and her friendly postings .

brigid

brigid Report 29 Jul 2014 19:52

I've reread this thread + can't find my thanks to other people who I'd wanted to thank in particular ...there really should be something about jax who has passed on documents to me via PM and always seems interested in the stories behind the facts .
I hope people will continue to mention members by "names" and give specific examples of how they've helped you either on this thread or on the thread on which they've helped you

brigid

brigid Report 30 Jul 2014 00:02

Continued Thanks go to Root gatherer who often finds censuses and war records which would never have come up in my searches because of alternative spellings or because I hadn't thought to go further back to look for connections
I posts them so promptly after a question is put up on here .

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 30 Jul 2014 11:19

Many thanks for your appreciation, Brigid - that's so nice of you!

I love the detective work, and the buzz from finding just the "right" bit of information . It's completely addictive.
I do it mainly for my own enjoyment, as do all the helpers on the research boards, but it's good when it helps someone else.
And nice, if embarrassing, to have it appreciated!
