Potty helped me too on somemilitary info a couple of years ago .

I know many members are v.helpful .I just think naming + giving specific examples is polite and shows how others can make the site better by copying our "stars" . sometimes random remarks leasd to major discoveries + members don't even realised that they have contributed ..

Thank you, Robert! Like lots of the other helpers on here, I really enjoy the searching and the thrill when I find something that helps somebody go forward.

I must sincerely thank POTTY who way back in 2013 advised me to look at Ancestry where I found a connection to Cousins I was looking for and as a result I was able to link 2 sections of my extended Family who did not know the other existed.

Thank you Potty.

I can't begin to list all the people who have selflessly helped me with my research over the past 10 years but it doesn't stop there!

Countless members, still on GR and departed, have given me so much support personally during times of tragedy and ill health without seeking recognition.

They all know who they are....so a massive THANK YOU from me and members of my family they have also helped.

Thanks to those who gave me information about Russian naming systems ;the Patronym is proving useful in identifying potential brothers .
+ for suggestions about possible anglicisms of Jewish names ; the siblings i'm investigated often had at least 3 versions of their first name from when they were in russian latvia ,,jewish school in manchester , church school in Birkenhead ,on the boat to USA and as adult Americans . Usually the initial remains same but not always ..
With my scots ancestors it's also useful to know that Polly was Mary ,Peggy was margaret +britih Charlotte became Lottie .

I would like to express my appreciation for all the kindness I have received, not to mention some other, quite undeserved, support which is still carefully tucked awayfor a special occasion.

Thank you to everybody who has given me support in any way, I really do appreciate it.

A particular thank you to Gwyn who came to the funeral.

appreciation of Root gatherer who can point out mistakes without appearing critical and who has found vital information from new Zealand for me .
Also appreciations of all members who share trees or documents with others + do not always receive thanks for their kindness .

Many thanks for your appreciation, Brigid - that's so nice of you!

I love the detective work, and the buzz from finding just the "right" bit of information . It's completely addictive.
I do it mainly for my own enjoyment, as do all the helpers on the research boards, but it's good when it helps someone else.
And nice, if embarrassing, to have it appreciated!

Continued Thanks go to Root gatherer who often finds censuses and war records which would never have come up in my searches because of alternative spellings or because I hadn't thought to go further back to look for connections
I posts them so promptly after a question is put up on here .

I've reread this thread + can't find my thanks to other people who I'd wanted to thank in particular ...there really should be something about jax who has passed on documents to me via PM and always seems interested in the stories behind the facts .
I hope people will continue to mention members by "names" and give specific examples of how they've helped you either on this thread or on the thread on which they've helped you

Huge Appreciation to Argyll/gran she has found Scottish births deaths and now an emigration record so i'm on my way to finding out if my father had any american cousins
from reading other threads i gather she uses her own credits to help people .
I love her determination to get to the bottom of mysteries and her friendly postings .

many thanks to SAFC who comes up with census + other facts really quickly.
As for Kucinta her historical context comments added to facts or suppositions are really useful .

pls keep naming + praising .The GR members are a modest lot but it's good to give a few reminders of when + how they have helped us ...to make up for the people who forget to thank .

Special Thanks to Rootgatherer for saving me money on extra documents by posting details which showed I would have been going on wild geese chases ;
+ appreciation for whenever Sylvialncanada reminded me not to jump to assumptions + find proper links ..amazimgly they did turn up in most instance in the Fellman story ,
It's great that so many of you are in different countries so if I am on line early am or late at night there is invariably someone awake ;
Anncardiff, Jax ,Mersey + lynsky we have had some chats before when I was under my sister Alisoun's identity ; I believe your personalities shine through your posts + all the personal comments make the whole experience of searching feel safer for newcomers + more fun + rather inspiring that total strangers could be interested in My family history .

Have to give big thanks to Alemap as being the person to suggest looking at Alien registration documents circa WW 1 for a foreign born ancestor ;
We now all have an enlargement of the 1917 photo of our well-dressed Great -Grandfather . Sometimes a helpful suggestion leads to more than just uncovering a fact .
