JoyBoroAngel Report 19 May 2014 10:35

I straighten other peoples pictures Mesrey

Island

Island Report 19 May 2014 10:38

Yep. Checking the doors. I think it's just being security conscious isn't it?

Checking that the oven and gas hob are off but again, security and safety because OH has been known to leave keys in the door and a gas ring on.

I think genealogists have OCD :-D

KittytheLearnerCook Report 19 May 2014 11:24

I wish I had one to make sure my door keys leave the house with me.

I have spares with 2 neighbours, 3 daughters and my sister now......I am forever forgetting them :-S :-S

The amount of times I have trawled from house to house to get a spare so I can get in is growing almost monthly.......I might fix one to my bra every morning, just in case :-D :-D

Elizabeth2469049 Report 19 May 2014 12:37

Once - I have grown out of it - I had to peg out the washing with coloured plastic pegs in the correct rainbow order if I found I had a colour I'd missed in the peg-bag I would go back to the beginning and start again

Susan10146857 Report 19 May 2014 12:39

Is this an OCD?......I have to be early to anywhere I go.....I set my alarm an hour before I need to........I have to leave the house spot on the time I have planned to......If I run late for even a minute, I go into stress mode....When I arrive at my destination....even if there is enough time.....I am so stressed out because things haven't gone to plan, that it takes me ages to get back to normal.

Oh heck I have a washing 'thing' as well. It has to be pegged out in a certain way, I don't put the coloured pegs in a particular order, but I can't have 2 pegs of the same colour next to each other :-S

Elizabeth- I'm a bit like that with colour coordinating pegs to items on the line :-D :-D

..and I do the colours in a sequence! Definitely not 2 of the same colour together when other colours are involved. If I have (for example) a tea towel, white with blue stripes, I put 2 blue pegs in it, and so on :-D :-D SAD OR WHAT :-D :-D :-D

Perhaps all genealogists have a "peg thing"? :-S :-S :-S :-D :-D :-D

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 19 May 2014 15:33

I thought my mother was the only person who colour co-ordinated the washing with the pegs! The pegs had to match the garment, or if there were no pegs to match the garment, the pegs had to match!

She re-pegged my washing many times, said it looked untidy :-S

You can probably guess, I don't care what pegs I use. :-D

Not sure if this is an OCD (my brother says I'm anal :-( ).... but I MUST have all the herbs & spices jars in alphabetical order.... because it's easier to find them.

Dermot

Dermot Report 19 May 2014 15:57

My old chum suffers somewhat & from childhood too.

Several of the signs mentioned here are obvious. But, to those who have no knowledge of OCD, they think he is a bit weird - which is sad.

Loud speech is one of his many traits & he is a poor listener or conversationalist unless, of course, the chatter is on his favourite subjects - history & football. He has an excellent memory but poor person-to-person interaction.

And don't get me going about his table manners - like an untrained child.

But I'm getting used to his oddities having known him since 1989. He has no siblings & is now 51.

That's just being practical Lady Scozz :-) :-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 19 May 2014 16:19

I don't colour coordinate pegs and washing but I do have a certain order that washing goes on the whirly line. It is one of the jobs OH and I can't share because he slings them on the line in any order. I also have small older pegs and newer larger ones. The small ones have to be used first to put socks and undies on the inner lines and the larger pegs on bigger things on the outside, so when the washing is taken in I have to do it in reverse, moving all the bigger items firsts, smalls last so the small pegs end up on top.drives me mad if he does it and the pegs are mixed. I say it is being practical but now I am not so sure.
I also straighten pictures, and we are always well on time or early.

The strange thing is I am not a particularly tidy person.

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 19 May 2014 17:17

I am not a tidy person to but much more tidy then the butler
I wait till he is in bed and often reclaim the kitchen
his rubbish opps I mean treasure goes in the garage ;-) ;-)

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 19 May 2014 17:27

You people are lucky that your 'OCD's' are minor in that they don't impact too badly on your lives. If you have something happen that will push your stress limits higher, they could escalate into more but at the mo they are idiosyncrasies.

My ocd is hoarding and that really impacts onto my life. People try to talk to me logically about why I do or don't need to hang on to something, but one side of my brain, the ocd side ignores the logic, and is the hardest to cope with.

Dermot, your friend sounds more like he is on the autistic spectrum and certainly those traits he has will impact on his life and the acceptance of others. His actions don't sound like obsessive compulsive disorders.
