Hi all, has anyone got any views on tablets v I pads.

Hubby wants one but not sure which is best for his use.

He wants to play games, catch up on face book and take photos. Hes not very 'internet wise' bless him so wants something not too complicated.

Just wondered if any of you great peeps out there have any views or experience on this subject.

Thanks in anticipation.
Ann. :-)

I have an I pad and I love it

Am on it now replying to your thread

Prefer Facebook set up on the I pad to going into it on the main PC

You can download lots of free apps for games as well as accessing your emails and other sites you would usually use

Well l have a samsung tablet (android..whatever that is) and l don't like it. l used g/daughters ipad yesterday and its great, so easy to use :-)

The samsung...l had probs with battery charging, it would say 100% charged then run out in 5 mins, that is better now though l must admit, but tapping icons and threads etc l want to look at can sometimes take for ever. The key pad is small and l always tap the wrong letter... on g/daughters ipad l had no probs at all. l would have got one but thought they were alot more expensive....but they are not :-)...extravagant l know but l will get one and be less stressed!!!! ;-) ;-)

OH and I both have IPads which we especially like for taking away with us. We also have a key board which we can use with them if we want to. I find it easy for 'typing' although annoying for its use of prescriptive text. I do tend to use my desk top when home but that is personal choice. The Ipad is great for taking photos and playing games, the screen is very good. My Ipad cover is wearing now from being carted around and I have just bought a cover for it from Amazon for £3.99 including postage. And it arrived within two days from ordering. :-) :-)

I too love my iPad you can do just about everything on it and there are hundreds of free and/or inexpensive apps to download. Probably the iPad is the most expensive but I think its worth it. I use it in the evenings while watching television at the same time. Before the iPad I was confined to the office to use the PC. I use it as a television (the free Filmon app)tp watch english television and I downloaded a free word processing app and load,s loads more

Nearly everywhere you go has free wifi connection so you can use it when you are out and about if you want to. It also takes great photos and its easy to seend them on to other people via email or message.

My friend bought a Samsung as she has the mobile but she now wishes she had bought the iPad. its easy to link up with family and friends who have an iPad, iPhone, or iPod.

I think that you would get a lot of use out of it too AnnMarie, if you can get it too yourself that is.

The main things to consider are that iPads are horrendously overpriced and you are locked into iOS.
With Android devices you have a far greater choice and they are mostly cheaper but as good as and even, in some cases, better than iPads.

Well ...I love my iPad. Having seen other tablets I know that for me this is the best.....had it almost 3 years and use it every day.I call it my friend as I have lived on my own since my OH died and it keeps me in touch with family, keep my music, photos, videos,in fact a portable encyclopaedia.
I put it on charge at night and always have it with me.Love doing FaceTime with family in Oz....and it seems more reliable than Skype.
Don't play many games on it,but did play Sudoku a lot when in Oz ..and on long plane journeys.
As my friend says....a good bit of kit.....!

I don't have either, but if I was thinking of getting one I would probably look into Sony as I think their phones are good and really they are just a larger version of the phone

I have a Nexus 7 2 which has a retina screen and I love it.

Much easier to use than my smart phone and is easy to carry when out and about.

Smaller than an Ipad more like Ipad mini size.

I have a laptop and a Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Love my Galaxy Tab.

There is one major problem with iPads. You can only use Apple Apps. etc., otherwise they are considered the top of the range.

You may be best going to somewhere like PC World and trying out the different tabs, for size, ease of use and weight, some although small can be quite heavy.

If you know anyone with a tab ask to try theirs out.

I can't afford an ipad, but have a tablet to take out and about when researching. I can access the internet via my contract mobile phone when away from home.

It's rubbish at pictures as the camera is not forward facing and I don't want pictures of me standing in front of things...............silly me didn't realise until I got it home :-(

Apart from that I am very happy with it.

I think its always worth going on a comparison site rather than take someone elses recommendation.

You normally get what you pay for although Nexus 7 has a good rating on this site

I've only just acquired a Nexus 7 2013- it has been listed in Computeractive magazine for some months in their "Buy It" list, describing it as the best budget buy tablet. Still exploring it! but it seems fine though I am going to have to buy a stylus! I have also bought "Nexus 7 for Dummies"!

Kitty!! You have found the perfect 'selfie' camera :-D Reckon it's all some people want ;-)

I have to press a button to take a selfie and camera turns itself somehow lol - if I forget to turn it back it can be a scary moment when you go to take a photo and see your own ugly mug staring at you. :-0

I can't get on with ipads/tablets. I don't really like touch-screen and prefer a laptop with a decent keyboard (been using computers for 30+ years so maybe I'm a bit of a Luddite). OH uses a tablet and it's OK for taking away if we want to access internet.
