Quinsgran... you are required to be safe and sound.. so only venture in the other direction over the States.. that is the way we intend to go. Otherwise you will only be allowed to cross the harbour bridge.... we let Allan cross the bridge when he was here.

It is pretty damn despicable when friendly planes get shot down. I know it says they thought it was a cargo plane. Even during the war you fired at the enemy not your mates.

Laptops are great Allan, I don't like the pad on them for moving the cursor so have a mouse.. my advice there is get a cordless mini mouse ( I am not taking the Mickey)... I can even navigate my computer with the mouse in my pocket, but could look suspicious if you did that.

Persie, I shouldn't smile on a thread such as this, but your last sentence gave me a chuckle.

QG, my brother seems to be travelling constantly and for one brief moment I did wonder, but most of his travel is in Asia as his wife is Chinese.

Heed Persie's advice

RIP to all on the flight :-(

Such a terrible tragedy my heart goes out to those families who have lost loved ones and to those people who put their trust in the airline and didn't suspect they would be in such peril.

Apparently at least 9 Britons lost, my o.h.'s son occasionally has to travel to all sorts of places for his job altho with his latest company I don't think he has to go so far. He once ended up in Angola for three months when he should have only had to spend 3 weeks there, due to problems with the job, so it was worrying for his wife and family then. Must be so heartbreaking to have your loved one go off to somewhere so far away and then to lose them in this way.

May all those lost rest in peace and may their loved ones get answers they so desperately need.

The families of the other victims in the lost airliner are still in limbo waiting to know what happened and where their people ended up.

Progress brings with it a lot of sadness and well as the good things.

I can only describe the shooting down of a civilian airliner as a heinous crime, I also have to wonder why it was flying over a war zone, I can only presume it was to save money on fuel :-|

Whoever was responsible for the murder of the crew and passengers of this flight need to be identified and brought to justice, however - there are reports that the black box has been recovered and sent to Russia, if that it is true, we may never know what information, if any, it might provide :-(

May all those who perished in this horrific incident R.I.P. <3 and my thoughts and prayers go out to all their loved ones and friends <3

BillinOz Report 18 Jul 2014 07:59

They had clearance to fly over at 32k +.as did other airlines.
Black box info now Irrelevant. wont show anything.
Culprits already confessed on telephone call.
also caught on Sattelite.
Russia peed of with Rebels. may cast them out.

Bill in Oz.

This tragedy may be a staggering turn in world events & who knows where it will end.

World leaders, with all their huffing & puffing, have little effect to sort out the problems & ills of their communities. We are left virtually leaderless to cope with war & strife, poverty & wretchedness, inequality & local crime.

We are just fodder for the jaws of war.

Daughter's just told me, my nephew's wife's family (Dutch Australian) were on that flight.
She's very upset. We'd never met nephew's wife's family, but my daughter was in regular contact with her cousin, his wife and her family on the internet.

hi,
It's not too bad for me, but my daughter was in regular contact with the family.
My brother in law (who also lives in Aus) is due in UK next weekend, as his aunt is seriously ill. He must be torn about what to do, as I know he's very fond of his daughter in law's family.

James Gallagher the acting health editor for the BBC has reported that a large number of delegates en-route to the Aids 2014 conference, the biggest meeting of the world's leading researchers and campaigners on HIV/Aids, were on the flight. He said that around 100 delegates are estimated to have been on the flight, including Joep Lange, a former president of the International Aids Society, he was a prominent figure in HIV research from the earliest days of the virus being discovered.

I just read a bit more about this dreadful loss to the world of so many eminent and caring people. It made me angry, as it often does, that the people are called tragic! They aren't/weren't/ They are victims of a tragedy to their families and them, they are not tragic.

Maggie, a sad loss for your extended family and when it's closer to home, it hits even harder than just reading a newspaper article. My sympathy to your niece by marriage, your nephew and your daughter.

One family were on the plane because they missed a previous flight, another family should have been on plane and missed it or something.

Fate has a hand all the while.

The husband wife and child that should have been on the plane and weren't were bumped off because the flight was full when they checked in so they had to take another flight. Talk about lucky.

A grandfather and his three grandchildren from Perth were on the flight. He was bringing them home early from a European holiday, as they were due to return to school next Monday when the school holidays finish.

The parents are (were) still in Amsterdam :-(

at last it seems the majority of the victims have been placed in a refrigerated train - disgusting to hear that many of the victims' property has been stolen - what kind of people could do such a thing
