Island. Jeff Lynne still has a very strong Brummie accent unlike many who now live in USA who have developed a phoney American accent.

Paula. Some people can't help picking up accents while some never lose them.
I moved south from the midlands and was accused of coming from 'oop north' - wherever that is - when I went back home on visits I was told I had a London accent.
Now I'm back on home turf I'm told I don't have an accent :-S
No effort on my part to adopt another accent.

I never thought Jeff Lynne had a particularly strong brummie accent.
