I had tickets to see Gene Pitney the week after his death. Sadly it was not to be.

Singing the Blues by Guy Mitchell was the best - as soon as OH heard it he said "That'll be a hit"

"I'll be home" Pat Boone - wept buckets over that one when OH was doing his national service in Singapore for two years

I don't know if they were the first I bought, so long ago I can't remember but I certianly bought
Pat Boone singing Thee I Love, from the film Friendly Persuation
Pat Boone singing Red sails in the sunset
Julie London Cry me a River
laurie London He's got the whole world in his hands.
Richard Chamberlain, I bought one by him can't remember what it was though.
Tommy Steel singing the blues
These would have all been in the 50s.

Catch a Falling Star/Magic Moments by Perry Como.

I could never afford LP's.

We got rid of all our old vinyl a couple of years ago - just when vinyl started to make a comeback. :-(

Chris- They used to sell them in a store I worked in at the time.

I had quite a few of them, and after listening to them a lot, I began to prefer them to the "real" singers.

One of the hits that I remember being on one was "Hands Up, Baby Hands Up, give me your heart, give me give me your heart ...."! :-D :-D :-D

Barbara-
Those are lovely memories for you to treasure! I always said that I would go to see Gene Pitney if he came to Wales. For one reason and another I didn't decide to go when he came to Cardiff, and then as Ann said, we were hearing on the news that he had died in the Hilton. :-( :-( :-(

Gene Pitney died here in Cardiff in the Hilton Hotel

Lena Zavaroni also died in Cardiff and I'm pretty sure Tammy Wynette died here too

I saw Lena in our village shortly before she died - she looked like a little old lady - she was a patient at the local psychiatric hospital where I worked

Single....Bobby Gentry, I'll never fall in love again. 7/6d or 37and a half pence.

L.P.....The original stage cast recording of Oliver! Under a £1

Anyone remember those L.Ps that were cover versions of the latest hits in the 70s? I think they were called 'Top Hits' or something similar.
EDIT....No it was 'Top of the Pops'

I have an old 78 player that has lead needles and the volume is controlled by opening and closing two wooden flaps on the front!

Hello

As I remember, it was an ABBA LP, which cost £4.

Very expensive back then!

Take gentle care
With best wishes

Maria Elana by Gene Pitney. 1968/9. My boyfriend, who is now my hubby, bought it for me when I got my first record player.

For most of the era of 35mm movies the sound was analogue on a stripe next to the pictures. If the projection equipment was not well maintained then the film could slide or skip and the result was sound wobbles. Not something you would encounter at Leicester Square but quite possible with your local Roxy.

There are only a handful of cinemas now able to project 35/70mm movies. As a huge part of movie heritage has not been moved to digital that is a massive loss of cultural heritage.

did you know that there used to be a pricing policy related to the colour of the labels
(talking 78's here,) think it was Decca's 12 inch and 10 inch records

how many of you had a transcription deck?

that one ran at 16 rpm, no good for music, really

talking of which.........do you remember the "wobbly" soundtrack on some films

especially piano music.......
