I hope those who are posting parcels are ready for the third degree when at the post office. I have three to post and I just know I am going to forget what is in them. I do know that there are no batteries though.

I do find it a bit intrusive when asked what is in the parcel.

Just been there Ann so I know what you mean.

What's even more annoying though, at the larger PO in town especially, is when not only do they ask what's in there and what it's worth but ask whether you want insurance when you've already said how you want it to go ( 2nd recorded or whatever) and then go on to ask if you want tops ups for your phone or to change your broadband etc.

I try to steer clear of our main PO these days, since they updated it for the second time in a couple of years the queues are horrendous. I don't mind using the self service posting but for anything else the queues are out of the door. With the self service it just shows you a picture of everything that should not be in the parcel so you can just go to the next bit. To me that is daft. If things shouldn't be in there it is for a reason, so if you can just say no, is it putting PO staff in any danger? If not why bother?

Our local post office has three females behind the counter, I am sure they love knowing what is in our parcels. :-D :-D nosey lot!!

That surprised me, the other day sent off one of my certificates, for renewal.......was asked what was in the envelope. I also sent off two packets of photos,in jiffy bags....

understood her asking what they were

My daughter sent me a surprise prezzie but on the outside of the envelope was a sticker telling me what the parcel contained and the value of it. So much for the surprise.

Who is brave enough to defend Royal Mail values?

LadyScozz Report 25 Nov 2014 18:58

In Oz, I've only been asked what's in a parcel, and the value of it, if it's going out of the country. You could say anything, because it's never checked.

All parcels are checked on entry to the UK at the Mail Centres, many such as Mount Pleasant actually have Customs Officers working there.

All parcels go through a scanner.

Sadly it is the the times we live in that they now have to ask what is in your parcel.

And as for selling other stuff, they now have targets, was not like that in my day.....

AnninGlos Report 25 Nov 2014 20:14

The main thing they are concerned about are batteries since one caught fire in the hold of an aircraft. If there is a battery it must be disconnected I think and protected by cardboard then they put a sticker on the parcel warning against handling if the parcel is damaged. Wendy they don't put anything on the parcel to say what is in it, not if it is going to a UK address anyway.

How about a bit of praise for Royal Mail for once, particularly as I've done my share of whinging about them.

A cousin rang at 10 this morning to say he had posted a parcel to us yesterday. The parcel had already arrived. That's what I call service :-D

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 26 Nov 2014 13:23

and I've just come home to a card saying "we are unable to deliver your parcel due to insufficient postage............£1:20 to pay."........that's likely a 20 p stamp and a pound handling charge......

why cant the postie fetch it out and say there is a fee to pay, missis,

? saving me a trip into town (£2:20 each way,)to pay the fee to get summat I may not want?

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 26 Nov 2014 15:28
