Dear All

Hello

Hope you are okay.

This is a question for the ladies and er, maybe the gentlemen!

What do you keep in your handbags?

Do you ever check what's in it?

Take gentle care
With best wishes

I change bags frequently so these days don't have time for things to collect in there. for every day shopping etc I use a bum bag, or my purse is in an inner pocket of my coat and in my bag which duplicates as handbag and shopping bag is a bottle of hand gel, a lipstick, paper hankies, a cloth shopping bag and a pen and my house keys. My phone is either in a phone pocket in my coat or in my bag.

Although I love handbags, in the main I only use 2 - a summer coloured one and a winter coloured one. Unfortunately, 'stuff' does tend to accumulate!

Purse on a chain, credit card wallet complete with bells, phone (which is usually dead), set of car+house keys, a couple of pens, comb, lipstick (never bother re-applying so don't know why its in there) several open packets of tissues, clip-on sunglasses, a plastic carrier bag and probably various cash receipts screwed up at the bottom.

Yes, sometimes it does get heavy which is when I discover last weeks shopping list on the pad, a camera or my kindle!

Do you have a gadget tucked away in there to cope with the eventuality of a thermonuclear explosion?

Tin hat?

Pac-a-shelter?

Couple of months of basic foodstuffs?

A Kindle?

DH calls my handbag The Tardis. He's always amazed at what fits!

I just checked..........

wallet
small tin of mints
small pkt tissues
lip conditioner
small notebook with pen stuck at the side
keys on a chain with a small torch
folding umbrella in a plastic bag
1 or 2 folded shopping bags

credit cards etc in a folder....... I take that when I go shopping, it usually stays at home.

and when we go out....... DH's ciggies & a lighter

I used to carry lots more..... realised I never used the stuff, so had a major cleanout of handbags years ago. example........ why did I carry a comb? fingers work just as well when you have mad curly hair.

Joy ~ you could survive a siege with your handbag :-)

I was in our local shop the other week
and a lady said to the shop assistant do you sell padlocks
I need one for my locker at work and they lady said no sorry
I said hang on a minute and out of my bag
and I tipped my bag out and produced one
and gave it to the lady wanting one
the shop assistant said do you have a nail file in that Mary Poppins bag Joy
and I said funny you should ask that and I handed her one

no wonder I have trouble with my shoulder
my bag weighs a ton :-D :-D :-D

My daughter once asked me if I ever clean my handbags? Apparently she had read something about the amount of germs which can lurk both inside and outside of said items. Having slight OCD in matters like this, she does wipe out her bags and also cleans her purse, phone and keys.

Although I use handbags, I always follow some advice I once saw and, when shopping in town, I keep my phone in my hand (with strap round wrist), my keys in a pocket and just my purse in my bag. This is so that, if the handbag gets snatched, you still have your door/car keys on you.

I was also advised - by a very nice fireman - to always take my phone and car keys to bed at night. If there is a fire, you can call them without leaving the room and, if there is a burglary, your car keys are with you and it seems you can sound the alarm from them.........not sure about that one though.

One important item in my handbag is a telescopic back scatcher. It is only 8" long but expands to twice that. My main reason for carrying it is that on several occasions in the supermarket I have been unable to reach what I want on the top shelf, but with this I can manage to get the item to come to the front of the shelf.

Other items in the handbag vary from time to time.
