Think you can inform the utilities etc. and should do so soonest they may require a Copy of the death cert |

Mum will be paying for the funeral as there is no life insurance and we think there is not a lot of money in the bank |

If your sister didn't have much money you may be able to apply for a local council bereavement grant towards the cost of the funeral |

I had a joint account with Fred and, when I rang them to have him removed from it, I was put on to a department at the bank that deals with bereavement, |

Is there a will? That's the first thing you check. If there's a will it may say all funeral expenses come out of the estate. A solicitor will inform everyone about the death and be able to sort tax etc out. |

My sister was talking last week to her friend Ian about making a will but he says she never got around to it. Not surprised given the amount of hospital appointments she had. |

You mentioned a small mortgage. If there is one, she is likely to have a linked life insurance. If you do come across a mortgage - a bank statement would show regular payments to a morgage provider- they would probably have a record of it. |
