Like all wrongdoings, the tentacles of 'badness' often stretch out to encompass others, particularly the miscreant's family, who are usually innocent victims & through no fault of their own, forced to run the public gauntlet of humiliation & embarrassment.

I totally agree Dermot - it is often those closest who bear the brunt.

At my age, not many of my 1950/60s teenage idols are still alive.

I'm intending to draw up a list of names of those not (yet) implicated in dodgy goings-on of yesteryear. Hopefully, I can gain some comfort from the result.

I thought that letters being sent and received by prisoners were vetted? how come this letter found its way out!...if/when he ever gets out he will probably have to go back to Oz, can't see him surviving over here. :-|

Bad and wicked deeds should and usually will result in the perpetrator being castigated. The normal process of parole demands acceptance of guilt which unfortunately Harris does not yet seem ready to do.

But what about the work of these people ? Some would say that all of the old episodes of TOTP with JS should be wiped, same for Harris and their music terminated.

However a good song remains a good song whatever happened next, same for art and movies. Would it really be a good idea to remove all the movies made by Ronan Polanski and music involving Phil Spector for example ? Or even the Manic Street Preachers. Or moving on a bit censor recorded sports events where the winner was on drugs etc.

Do you think some sort of Fahrenheit 451 team searching for disowned media should be created ? Should everything we watch and write be secretly observed and recorded to be possible held against us one unforeseen day?

That is the logical end game for Melanie Philips, May, Cameron and co.

"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen."

Precisely - it is a little like running around with your fingers in your ears shouting "la la laa".
