Lyndi

Lyndi Report 6 Sep 2015 23:09

I didn't watch. Decided to stick with the memories of reading (parts of ;-) ) the book under the desk in the chemistry lab at high school in 1960 ;-) Don't remember who had brought the book in, but most of us had read some of it by the end of the day lol.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Sep 2015 07:49

I am with Lyndi. Although I think I read it before 1960, in those days it was a real shock to the system. I chose not to watch it this time.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 7 Sep 2015 08:49

Agree with Lyndi and AnninGlos. I remember reading it in the mid-50s and I didn't think it would translate well to the screen.

Do you remember the 1960 obscenity trial (showing my age now)? One of the men, a judge or prosecutor, caused an uproar by saying something on the lines of "Is this the sort of book you would want your wife or servants to read?" He still appeared to be living in 1860!
