I was just catching up with the thread about the refugee situation and.......whoosh....it vanished before my very eyes?

Why was it so controversial for heaven's sake?

I was just posting on it when it went. Genes Admin, you have disappointed us all. what on earth was wrong with that thread?

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Sep 2015 11:53

Just as I was going to post the following :-|

There was an interesting interview on BBC's Victoria whatever this morning. The lady ran a guest house at the time of the Kosovo (etc) civil war.

Her family had previously told a Social Service friend that they'd be happy to take in a family. One evening he contacted them as SS had run out of temporary beds. Despite the arrangement being intended as an overnight only, they hosted the refugees for quite a while until the family were able to move to more permanent accommodation.

That arrangement worked out well. However, with the introduction of CRB checks and other red tape, it would be more difficult to do so now.
Neither, as some have pointed out, you 'really' know who you are taking into your home.

Lynda has told us of her good experiences fostering a unaccompanied child. There is also an incident locally were that wasn't so good.

The 'boy' from the Kosovo region was suspected to be an adult, not a child. At that time the schools had a visiting ESL teacher. He and other immigrant children were gathered together to receive English lessons. This 'child' said something to a couple of girls in their own language which really frightened them, but they refused to translate. The Teacher tried a group discussion about tolerance. That back-fired. The 'Child' said 'You don't know what I have in my pocket'.
That night he held a knife to his foster mother's throat, before disappearing.

Lynda may not have been told the full history of her British foster child, but at least it was on record.

There are good and bad amongst all nationalities. Unfortunately, it’s the Bad which make the headlines.

Utterly pathetic.

If anyone has a copy of the original maybe it could be posted again.

What reason did the RRer give? A debate thread that was full of forcefully held, very informative posts with some long words that they couldn't understand?

GR should explain that one :-|

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 8 Sep 2015 11:57

ANN Should ask Gr what the complaint was :-(

This is utterly ridiculous... can we not start a petition to bring it back?

A very current and important issue that affects all of us was being well discussed!

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 11:59

Sue, you know they NEVER explain. Probably because to say 'we took the easiest option' would sound as pathetic as it is.

For a subject that is being spoken and written about
all over the world it is a disgrace that it has been
deleted.

Yes it got heated at times but that's what happens when
people debate on things they are passionate about, nothing
wrong with that.

A good thread reported and deleted for no reason at all imo.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 8 Sep 2015 12:02

Ann I know but they should, we pay to contribute to threads and they are OUR words they have deleted, they belong to US.

By all means remove individual posts that are offensive but a whole thread?

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Sep 2015 12:02

If it had been left alone, it would have fizzled out. As it was, that was the way it was going.

Lyndi Report 8 Sep 2015 12:06

I am disappointed the thread has been pulled, I enjoyed reading the posts even though I didn't contribute to the debate.
What has surprised me is the speed of GR's response! Posts which have been rr'd are often lingering for days. ;-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 12:10

I agree Sue, they should.

Rose I did read that, very interesting. I have to be honest here and say that I don't honestly know if I could be brave enough to offer a home. Even though, in the past we were foster parents taking teenagers as well as young children and also probabtion volunteers when we had people visit in our own home who were on probation. We were younger then though. I do admire those who do open their homes though but I also read yesterday that they should not necessarily expect somebody from Syria.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 12:11

Mersey

Mersey Report 8 Sep 2015 12:14

GR you should be ashamed of yourselves.....

Each and every individual putting their points across and also it was flowing
in conversation whether people agreed or not........a very interesting , wide and varied thoughts on the subject......

You cant win!!!.....

I never usually give an RRer the time of day especially when it is reported for
no understanding reason......IMO it is a cop out !!!!
