The pneumonia jab is I think just against infection - virus? bacteria? well worth having of course.I had it, but later got it because of a throat infection blocking everything up, intensive care for ten days or so!

My arm is fine today.

It all seems to depend on which strain they choose to include which means it can be a bit hit and miss.

Last year's vaccine turned out to be virtually useless as it was only found to protect 3% of those given it. In most years they hope it will protect up to 50%.

Don't forget to also ask for a pneumonia jab
If you haven't already had one

Its a one off jab

But could save your life :-D :-D

Not had anything after mine this year last year arm was really sore and heavy for a week. Dont think Lissy has had a problem either.

Strange how it affects some and not others nothing as strange as folk .

I know all the blurb about no bugs etc in the flu jabs. Doctors persuaded me to get them, but I always got sick, some years I would get an awful cold/flu that would last for months.

Four years ago I said NO MORE! I haven't had a flu jab since, and the worst I've had is a sniffle for a few days.

AnnCardiff Report 22 Oct 2015 21:33

had mine about a month ago - no after effects - however, last year's flu jab was totally ineffective as I had really bad bouts of flu in the December and then again last August

Elisabeth Report 22 Oct 2015 18:58

I had a very sore arm. The whole of the muscle was swollen, bright red and very tender for about four days. For a couple more days the redness slowly subsided but the arm was itchy. Last year I just had a small tender area for a day or so.

My husband had no ill effects and the resident 98 year old had forgotten all about it after a few minutes and never mentioned it again!

Strange how it affects people differently.

There is no live virus in the flu vaccine so you can't get the flu from it. It takes 2 weeks for protection to develop.

It's designed to protect against 3 or 4 several strains of the virus but not ALL strains.

If you won't do it for yourself, think about others.

It keeps you from spreading flu to your family and other people, especially children, pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems.

Had one a few years ago and by the following day I had a hot, red lump the size of half an egg on my arm but every other year I've been fine

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 22 Oct 2015 16:39

the strange thing with me I thought (which is why I mentioned it), is that from Monday when I had it until this morning I felt nothing. It was only after midday today that I suddenly felt it was stiff and a bit achy.

Had mine on Tuesday, just a sore arm. I have had a couple of years when I felt grim for a couple of days but that could have just been a coincidence.

SuffolkVera Report 22 Oct 2015 15:12

Had mine on Saturday. Arm still aches a bit but isn't bad enough to worry me.

I was told a few years ago that, when people get flu type symptoms after the jab, the germs must have been in their body already and it is coincidence that they appear then. There is, or so I have been told, no live virus in the flu jab.

My sister had one last year and was poorly with flu symptoms for about a week. She hasn't had one this year. My other sister is putting off hers too as she always comes out in hives! (this is urticaria and a number of things can set it off - no known allergy).

BarbinSGlos Report 22 Oct 2015 13:59

I had my flu jab a few weeks ago and after a day or two I was fine. But last week I had a Shingles jab, and what a difference. It really hurt going in and was very sore for days. I also had terrible aches behind my eyes. I googled side effects of the jab and the first to come up was headaches. Thank goodness we only have to have it once.
