Hang on I need my specs! :-0

Oh yeah, it's there.

I think that's what is referred to as a token gesture.

FINALLY!!!!!
and a poor effort, MUST do better

I know its not defined, but couldn't the leaf be at 11 0'clock?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 6 Nov 2015 16:08

The leaf doesn't need to be at 11 o'clock - that's what the BL say and they should know.

Mrs Queen certainly doesn't think so. Nor the rest of the Royal Family.

The concept is a recent invention.

I KNOW that...................But its a nice thought..............innit?
it looks " tidier", at 11'oclock..........

On FMP people will need binoculars to see it...

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 6 Nov 2015 16:35

It looks tidier at 2 o'clock, actually. Sits better on the lapel.

So let me get this right...

People were upset that there was no poppy.

Then one appeared and they are now complaining that it is too small.

I would far rather see something like this instead of a site festooned with poppies that then makes it somewhat meaningless and rather crass.

Poppies are not all about who has the biggest or best display (although there does seem to be a penchant this year for lapels sporting huge blooms). They are a sign of remembrance which, after all, is what is intended - the poppy shows that you remember and size and quantity are immaterial, surely.

It's the thought - all be it belated - that counts.

I rather like the GR version and the one incorporated in the FMP logo is clever. For what it's worth the FMP home page features a montage of WW1/Edwardian/ uniformed soldiers, and photo on which is attached a very prominent Poppy.

The leaf at 2 o'clock can also be seen as 11 minutes past. So tidier and just as apt.

The Royal British Legion said that here is no particular way to wear the Poppy. The important thing is that we purchase one and remember it's significance.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 6 Nov 2015 17:37

GRs poppy has never been more than it is now.

Its not late,,,,,,infact until recent years poppies wasnt on display or sold till after 5 th Nov. My dad a forces man never wore his till 10th,,,,,,we dont need a month of poppy wearing surely.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 6 Nov 2015 17:41

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more, Kay.

Well done GR, I actually like it. It is neat, we don't need a huge one, it is in proportion.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 6 Nov 2015 17:53

I have always preferred the (correct) Scottish poppy plus the fact that thousands aren't wasted adding silly paper leaves which shouldn't be there in the first place.

Foggy Report 6 Nov 2015 18:00

I don't care whether they have leaves or not, or if the leaf should be to the left or right.
Its what it stands for that is important, and if they are being sold early, so what.
Brings some much needed money for a those who deserve it.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Nov 2015 18:00

well, I like it.

It's nice and simple.

Thank you GR!

We don't have leaves on our poppies over here, and they didn't come on sale until November 1st. The news anchors and reporters on TV didn't have them until Nov 1st.

It seemed odd to see them for so much longer on BBC News Overseas!
