Dermot

Dermot Report 12 Nov 2015 10:56

Chasing hares/rabbits/foxes was the subject of a talk given last night at our local church hall.

Without my hearing aids, I could have sworn that the speaker kept on mentioning 'cursing'. Not everyone can grasp a Devon accent. Even the Vicar looked a bit pale at times although this might be the result of the delicate details of one unfortunate wild fox depicted on a video being chased until its lungs give out & exhaustion delivered it to a pack of barking hounds to be eviscerated.

To make matters clearly understood by the astonished listeners, he went on to pay a tribute to hares that are terrorised, mauled & tossed about by the bunch of chasing dogs like a paper toy for the amusement of a crowd of gamblers plus other ghoulish sightseers.

And finally, the speaker proceeded a bit further alluding to wealthy farmers who allow such goings on. The welfare of a fox or fox cub, he said, that is dragged from its underground refuge with the aid of spades, terriers & long poles wrapped with barbed wire is certainly compromised, whatever about claims that the hunt 'dig-out' is part of a proud rural tradition. :-(

last evening I phoned a long lost rellie, almost 90 yrs old and as bright as a button. I didn't think she was still alive. Not heard anything about her for over 45 years. I have her address now and will visit her next week. A real opportunity for me to dig some history up .. . :-D :-D :-D
