now thought that over 150 have been killed ............. about 100 at the music hall Bataclan, where a California rock band was playing

But it is also thought that all attackers have been killed and accounted for ... there possibly as many as 8

dreadful night

The fire at the Calais refugee camp is thought to be due to an electrical fault and not connected to the Paris attacks. But it has burnt down a large number of tents .... about 2,500 metres according to one report .............. that's 2.5 km, or about 1½ miles long stretch of tents.

It sounds as though there are no reports of casualties.

Heartbreaking. My thoughts go out to all the victims families & friends.I don't see anyway that we can stop this sort of thing happening again. Worrying as we are coming up to the lead up to christmas & so many easy targets across the world. Glad Rollo's son is safe.

Glad to hear your son is safe, Rollo.

Death toll is rising. So awful, so tragic.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Nov 2015 09:51

Thank goodness Rollo's son is safe.

Although no one appears to have claimed responsibility as yet, its only going cast suspicions against a certain group. Why do the perpetrators do this? It's only going to harden the public's attitude.

If people have already arranged a visit to France/Paris, the best support we can give to the Parisiennes is to continue with our plans. <3

OMG - how frightening - how tragic - how barbaric :-(

127 people massacred - and no doubt there will be more deaths from their injuries - what kind of people do things like this - they do not deserve to be part of this world

All sporting events are cancelled, live entertainment eg music, cinemas likewise. Travel to and from France is severely restricted so any plans for tourist visits in the near future are out. Eight terrorists are dead.

All of our extended family are ok.

Local and regional elections scheduled soon have been postponed.
French schools are usually open on Saturdays but today they are closed. The closure may extend into next week.

The long sad list of fatalities is much shorter than it might have been thanks to the leap into action by Paris medical staff from ambulance drivers to surgeons. They all reported for work of their own accord without waiting to be asked.

France has been running its own version of intrusive internet monitoring for a long time. It was considerably beefed up after Charlie Hebdo. Nevertheless this act of war has caught French security completely by surprise and shows just why relying on electronic intelligence has severe and tragic limitations.

The plan "vigipirate" also shows that posted armed soldiers has its limits if you have no idea where and when the terrorists will strike next.

The internet ( originally Arpanet ) was designed to be impossible to block and extremely difficult to monitor. Its original function was as a fallback system of communications for US armed forces world wide in time of stress. It morphed into the internet and by the time most politiicians got their heads around it the internet was totally embedded into everything we do. The actions of UKGov suggest that at the highest level understanding of it is slight.

The De'esh (ISL) have their backs against the wall after defeats in Srinjar and near Aleppo. Terrorist attacks in western Europe have far more impact then any amount of murder in Baghdad. ISL will try and repeat this outrage. What chance there was of UKGov also joing in attacks on ISL within Syria have probably gone out the window. Britains never will be slaves (?) .

Sung (in French) on the pitch at the Stade de France in St Denys.

"Arise children of the motherland
The day of glory has arrived
Against us tyranny's
Bloody standard is raised
Listen to the sound in the fields
The howling of these fearsome soldiers
They are coming into our midst
To cut the throats of your sons and consorts

To arms citizens form your battalions
March, march
Let impure blood
Water our furrows"

It is very difficult to convey just how shocked the French nation are. It is far worse than after Charlie Hendo. Fine words from England are all very well but practical support would go down far better.

It is the very worst of times for UKGov to follow up on its demands for EU Light. I just hope the govt put all this on ice for the rest of this year at least.

Sickening, barbaric and cowardly.

My thoughts are with those many, many families who have lost loved ones, and those still awaiting news.

"tourist visits in the near future are out."

In my opinion, within a few days it will be the best time to go. Sure, there will be hightened security at the check-ins, but the terrorist cell (if that it who it was) will have gone to ground.
More people will be aware of their surroundings, just like the London Tube/Public transport users.

Terrorists set out not only to create carnage, but also induce Terror & Fear. If we all give in and stay away after the incidents of just one night, they've won.

Rambling Report 15 Nov 2015 19:31

Kay, maybe no one else is authorised to update their FB or Twitter pages except themselves? in which case given the shock and that they are travelling home, I wouldn't really expect anything yet. News of the group only seems to be coming from the family members who have been in contact with them so far.
