I suspect the ancient Greek alphabet is being used this year.

my NI number starts with Z :-( :-( :-( :-(

supercrutch Report 25 Nov 2015 13:01

Our NI numbers both start with a Y, have the same surname (obviously) and OH hasn't received either notification of the money yet.

No logic at all :-(

Mine starts with a Z too Ann, but in previous years I have been among the first to get it. :-S

why can a couple each receive the WFA???

Is it considered that a house or flat costs more to heat when 2 people are living there than when it is 1 person?

Over here, you either get a single's allowance OR a couple's allowance. eg for shelter, which applies only to the poorest.

A couple's allowance is NOT twice a single's allowance.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 25 Nov 2015 17:44

They don't normally Sylvia.

If 2 (married?) people of qualifying age live in the same house, the allowance is split between them. I'm too young, but OH isn't. The full amount goes to him. When I've grown up enough to claim, his will be reduced by 50%.

No idea what happens if there 3+ eligible people eg if they live in a care home or look after an older relative!

ah, I understand

Thank you, DET

I misunderstood the numerous comments about notification and payment to "me" and "OH"

Qualifications for getting WFA

Winter Fuel Payment

1.Overview

2.What you'll get

3. Eligibility

4.How to claim

3. Eligibility

You’ll qualify for Winter Fuel Payment if:
you were born on or before 5 January 1953 (for winter 2015 to 2016 - this date changes every year)
you’ll be living in the UK throughout the week of 21 to 27 September 2015

You may be able to get the payment if you live in Switzerland or a European Economic Area (EEA) country and you have a genuine link with the UK.

You can’t get the payment if you live in Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Portugal or Spain because the average winter temperature is higher than the warmest region of the UK.

When you won’t qualify

You won’t qualify if throughout the week of 21 to 27 September 2015 you:
are in prison
are in hospital getting free treatment for more than 52 weeks
need permission to enter the UK and don’t qualify for help from the Department for Work and Pensions
>>>have lived in a care home for the previous 12 weeks or more and get Pension Credit, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-related Employment and Support Allowance
lived in Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Malta, Portugal or Spain

Change of circumstance

Report any change of circumstance as these can affect how much you get. For example, if the qualifying person stops getting a benefit, moves out, dies or goes into care.

Contact the office paying your benefits - their details are on any letters they sent you.

Most Winter Fuel Payments are paid automatically. Write to the office that pays your Winter Fuel Payment if you want to cancel it.

EDIT

Sorry D E T, i've more or less duplicated your post

As I understand it, so far......

The older, 60+year old in the UK gets the full £200,per household,
but when the second person reaches 60, it is divided between the two
£100 each,
no idea what happens if 3 or more are living together....

however when 80+ is reached it goes upto £300 per household

It would have been courteous of DWP to inform pensioners
who live in the excluded countries & who have been recieving the payment for years, having originally satisfied all the qualifying criteria, that they will no longer be eligible.
Many of us are now in our 70s & 80s with increasingly poor health & just like everywhere else, our fuel bills pretty well double over the winter months.
It is a Winter Fuel Allowance, not a cold weather payment.
Just as a matter of interest, for the past week, the daytime temperature in Menorca has been around 11c, falling to 4 or 5 overnight & accompanied by torrential rain & 80 kilometer per hour winds. It´s only November yet. Winter hasn´t really started.
Still waiting to be officially informed.

My letter received yesterday. TWO sheets of A4 paper in an A5 envelope to tell me I will receive £100.

Given that they will be sending out some 10 million of these letters, surely there is scope for saving some serious money here.....!

At Last ! My letter arrived today, I'll get the money just in time for the last minute panic shopping :-D

Friend of mine was having a coffee with some others. They were all excited to have got their Fuel Allowance. I don't get that says my friend. After the shock the others all got excited about how much money the friend could claim and how they would all have free coffee for a few weeks.

Friend muses to herself on way home. No, definitely doesn't get a fuel allowance but does think she gets a heating allowance. Yes - there is a payment for her heating allowance but not for petrol (fuel) allowance on her bank statement.

The penny did eventually drop :-D
