David,

I have never used an online service to get a will. When needing copies of wills in the past I was fortunate to be able to travel into London to visit the Holborn office.

You found the will in the ledgers, filled in a form, handed over the form and payment - then waited for a copy to be produced.

Are you sure that a hard copy of the will is not being posted to you?

EDIT
Just looked at the GOV.UK site. When did you order it?

You’ll be able to access the wills for 31 days.

Please allow 10 working days for your documents to be made available*

Wills are provided for personal use only: you must get the relatives’ permission if you want to publish them in any way.

* Working days are classed as Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm), excluding bank holidays (England & Wales). Orders placed after 5pm will commence on the next working day

From the Help menu on the site

"How to get your copy grant and/or will.
You won’t be able to access the grant/will straight after ordering it. You will get an email confirming your order but this will not mean that your copy is ready to be downloaded.

You will get an email when it is ready to download, and this should happen within 10 working days. You will then be able to log in to the system and go to “My Wills” and save each available item to your computer. After you have logged in, the copy will be available for 31 days, so make sure that you save it before then.

If you have ordered more than one grant or will, then they may be ready to download at different times. You’ll get an email when each one is ready."

So what happens if you go to "My Wills"? nothing there?

I think there was a thread on this on one of the other boards, will see if I can find it.

Haven't used it myself David, but if it's not showing when you sign in perhaps email them to check?

I asked "When did you order it?"

According to the site info. If today or yesterday after 5pm, then maybe you might get it on Monday?

But note that it is a BETA site. To me that implies it is still in test mode. So there may be some glitches.

Also, I have not seen anything to indicate that all wills, etc. have been scanned/digitised. Perhaps others have? If not it may be that your paid-for order will be in a queue waiting for someone to find & scan the papers. After that you will get "ready" email.

I did get two wills from this site about 9 months ago but I can't remember the process. I know I had an email saying the order had gone through and then another one several days later telling me how to download them. I know it was quite easy to do. Have you had both emails? They did say it could take 28 days though I think I got mine in just over a week.

David

David Report 12 Dec 2015 14:35

ive just had one email

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 12 Dec 2015 15:02

Then I think you need to wait for the second email. I can't remember whether I was given a code to put in or not but I know the second email told me the wills were ready to download and how to do it. I should wait until you have gone 10 working days from placing the order and then if you haven't got another email contact them.

Good luck

I ordered one online, it arrived after a week or two, I can't remember exactly but there wasn't a problem.

That's a real pain David. Everything worked so smoothly for me when I used the site that I really don't know what to suggest. If you are getting no response to emails, could your credit card supplier help, assuming you made your payment by credit card.

Just had a thought - it was the official government site you used wasn't it? If it wasn't, then you may have said goodbye to your money.

I wish you luck sorting it.

Unless someone comes up with a better suggestion, there's a Feedback link at the very top of the page. The email address it links to is
[email protected]

As we're running in to the Christmas break, with so many people taking at least a week off, you may not get a prompt relpy. It took a couple of working days to answer a moan about pages being missing

Good to hear you have a happy ending David. I'm sure other people read your post and would have come up with the same suggestion. :-)

Happy Christmas to you as well.
