kandj Report 26 Dec 2015 22:26

We have recorded this programme Ann and perhaps watch it tomorrow.
Not keen on scary ones, but it is a three part drama on BBC1 which is usually good.

the butler did it ! :-D ;-)

maggiewinchester Report 26 Dec 2015 23:17

I watched it, in between pixilation caused by wind - not my wind - the wind outside!!!!

ElizabethK Report 27 Dec 2015 10:46

I watched it as well - what I could see amid the gloomy shots of the curtained rooms :-| !!!

It's not particularly scarey, at least in my opinion. Some of the volume was a bit iffy, but that aside the production was alright. We didn't find it to be a 'must watch' but in the absence of something more gripping we'll probably watch the remaining episodes.

Although I've probably read the book, I can't remember who did it!

MotownGal Report 27 Dec 2015 11:12

This is a popular Agatha Christie story, I think it was called something else when it was first published.

And sadly, I CAN remember who did it.

Anyway, why bother with the story when looking at Poldark!

;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Dec 2015 11:36

Ten Little N****s? Or was it changed to Indians?

Don't/didn't watch the Poldark recreation, so wouldn't know who was in it. Mind you, we did recognise a number of well known actors + those who have appeared in other TV productions.

Sue

Sue Report 27 Dec 2015 12:51

Just had a look at Soldier Island. Interesting history of the mansion.
Apparently DET , firstly it was as you said, Ten little N.....s , then due to public outcry changed again to Ten little Indians, and lastly to And Then There Were None.

I watched it and enjoyed it, some creepy characters, but I am a big Agatha fan, and read all of her books yonks ago. Fortunately I cant remember too much about it. :-D

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 27 Dec 2015 13:49

I've read most of her books - love them - can't remember whodunnit in this case!!!

Tabitha Report 27 Dec 2015 13:51

Waiting to watch all 3 together

I have every book Agatha Christie ever wrote & seen all the productions too.

I know who did what & when but still enjoy watching new versions.

Except where Geraldine McEwan was concerned she ruined Miss Marples reputation.

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 27 Dec 2015 13:55

I also enjoyed it and know who done it and
will be watching it all :-)

What I'm not enjoying is Dickensian.

MotownGal

MotownGal Report 27 Dec 2015 13:59

You are both right DET and Sue it was called both of those titles in the past.

Tabitha, I don't know if you will agree, but I think the best Marple was Joan Hickson. To me she was like an inquisitive little bird going around picking up tit-bits of information, and putting them all together.

I wanted the full boxset of her interpretation of Miss Marple, until I found out how much it would be.

Strangely enough both the Geraldine McEwan and the Julia McKenzie versions were a lot cheaper!

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 27 Dec 2015 14:04

Will it end like the book or the stage play, though? AC wrote a different ending for the play.

kandj

kandj Report 27 Dec 2015 19:04

AnnC, we have watched the first episode and both looking forward to the other two.
I found it too dark and not great sound wise, but not at all creepy. The bonus with BBC is there are no advertisements.

Emma, we have recorded the Dickensian programmes, but haven't got around to watching any of them yet.

brummiejan Report 28 Dec 2015 17:48

Just watched episode 2 on Iplayer. I read the book years ago, but have forgotten the ending completely.
Just to add, I have seen 3 episodes of Dickensian so far and I think it's brilliant.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 28 Dec 2015 18:03

With Dickensian, I spend far too much time trying to remember which novels the characters are from, and not enough on the Plot :-S

Tabitha

Tabitha Report 28 Dec 2015 18:41

Joan Hickson was the best ever Miss Marple even AC choose her.

You may be able to get the box set cheaper on Amazon or play.com.

I know Alibi is repeating them all this week.

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 28 Dec 2015 18:42

Joan Hickson was by far the best Marple, and David Suchet the best Poirot. That's my opinion anyway, for what it's worth.
