I agree, David, about MS controlling our computers, and watching what we look at :-|
If they can do that - why can't they catch the paedophiles, shut down the porn sites etc?

I think you do just have to be careful and accept how public your use of the net is. I have noticed recently that many names I have been in touch with over something entirely different on a different activity altogether are suggested to me as Friends on Facebook within 48 hours!

I deleted my post ref Win10 in case it offended any one, even though I meant it.
May times I have deleted my searches (as I shouldn't have been looking at it ant way) but I don't think it is deleted. Perhaps they store it elsewhere. I really should take up reading again.

I joined Facebook for company but find it an invasion of privacy. These technological toys consume a huge amount of our time. No doubt those who own the media glean that which is beneficial to them :-( :-P :-P

Well I've just read about half of that and was annoyed. Who reads 45 pages of terms and conditions or even 4? I don't. I just ticked the box or you can't have it.

Seems Microsoft and all the media it can buy knows a lot more about me than my wife or a priest.

What with Microsoft and all its giant wealth owns and DVLA and the Police's computer we are, how can I put it? like the characters in George Orwell's book 1984
Even your NHS medical history records are for sale, unless the news was kidding.

Since I've got nothing to hide what do yo want to know, and WHY?

When I turned my computer on this morning (I am in NZ) I was immediately informed that Windows 10 would be installed on the 27th. If I wanted to change the date of installation or cancel it "click here" which I did, and I made sure it said cancel the installation. It will be interesting to see if they take notice and dont instal it. You will hear my screams if they ignore my cancellation.

Some years ago Microsoft was sued.
The charge? monopoly within the software industry.
Microsoft won.
They were too strong or those that sued them were too weak, same thing.
The court room in which the case was used probably used MS sofrware

I checked through my updates history yesterday, for a different issue, and noticed that Win10 had spent much of last August trying to install without me knowing.
Computer said Noooooo.

I'm wondering if there would be any point in my going back to Win7 which I was reluctant to leave, the same was true about XP, a good operating system.

Now this is very strange.

This afternoon I was answering posts via Google searched pages and obviously cached sites.

My screen went black (first time). I do run Windows 10 on this laptop.

A hard reboot and the system came back BUT on my desktop a notification box appeared asking if i had tried the new browser Edge? and it proceeded to scroll through the introductory video.

Now call me suspicious but that was very peculiar and I am confused...lolol

Supercrutch, I'm sure you are not on your own. A lot of us will be confused with
the Windows 10 scenario.

I keep getting several pop-ups offering me free Windows 10, but each time these
disappear before I can click...... No Thank You!! I am on edge about what is going on!!

I cannot explain this phenonomum. I play a lot of Solitaire and most days do the Microsoft Solitaire Collection.

Sometimes I lose control of my optical mouse ie the arrow will not move or alternatively it wanders all over the screen !!

Am I using faulty equipment or is there some remote controller??

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 24 May 2016 17:16

If you have installed drivers for yr mouse try removing them esp. if it is Logitech or elderly MS Mouse. Non gaming mice will generally run just fine without custom drivers whether wireless or tethered.

David

David Report 24 May 2016 17:29

I'm not using a MS optical mouse, just
a bog standard Polaroid mouse and keyboard and dongle.

NB NB 2nd paragraph below. I run Win 7 and not interested in Win 10. I've changed my settings so that I have to be asked if I want updates downloading etc

Microsoft has faced criticism for changing the pop-up box encouraging Windows users to upgrade to Windows 10.

Clicking the red cross on the right hand corner of the pop-up box now activates the upgrade instead of closing the box.

And this has caused confusion as typically clicking a red cross closes a pop-up notification
The upgrade could still be cancelled, when the scheduled time for it to begin appeared, Microsoft said
The change occurred because the update is now labelled "recommended" and many people have their PCs configured to accept recommended updates for security reasons.
This means dismissing the box does not dismiss the update.
Brad Chacos, senior editor at the PC World website, described it as a "nasty trick".
"Deploying these dirty tricks only frustrates long-time Windows users who have very valid reasons to stick with operating systems they already know and love," he wrote.
Microsoft said: "With the free Windows 10 upgrade offer ending on 29 July, we want to help people upgrade to the best version of Windows.
"As we shared in October, Windows 10 will be offered as a 'recommended' update for Windows 7 and 8.1 customers whose Windows Update settings are configured to accept 'recommended' updates.
"Customers can choose to accept or decline the Windows 10 upgrade."

Just to add to my previous post. T'other night (Like others on here) I found a box telling me Win 10 was going to download at ................... However I cancelled it but I never leave PC on when not in use anyway - to me it would seem very poor security to do so
