Neither was my mum but she did make good pastry. Cakes as a child were either bought or Mary Baker ready to bake, just add an egg and I think milk, mix and put in the oven.

I have the knack but heaven knows where it comes from. Son also has it, he's a chef. Dad was a better cook than mum and my cousins (mum's youngest sister's children) loved staying school dinners to get a decent meal. :-D

OH's mum was a good cook but not adventurous, I like experimenting it's fun. I was lucky, my children would eat all my experiments and they were honest with me. They would tell me if they didn't like it or say they'd like to have it again.

Cooking's only chemistry after all. :-D
