I hadn't realised that the RR button was available to non paying members?

Not that I didn't believe you or anything but, I logged out just to check!.
We learn something new everyday.
I cant believe that the Report button is active for any anonymous person who happens to wander in.

How on earth does GR keep track of who is doing the reporting.
No wonder Itchy Fingers doesn't own up... Itchy Fingers can't post !

IMO Itchy Fingers is reporting threads, not because he/she finds them offensive, it's because he/she CAN report anything with absolute anonymity... even the GR moderator will not know the reporter's identity!

That is shocking!

GR are aware of who is reporting, or at least the member account which is logged in at the time the report is made - some accounts are used by more than one person.

Accounts who make regular malicious reports are in breach of the T's and C's and risk being suspended or banned altogether.

Straykitten interesting points, that said if the post really was offence no one would be able lynch someone for complaining as the masses would jump in and defend them I'm sure.
It really should only be for paying members, not to say the childish RRing won't happen but it would reduce.
I know this has been touched on many times before it was just a little chat not expecting any changes. Personally I don't care other than it stops the flow of a thread as I've said before.

You are right Inspector!
I stand corrected.

The RR button is available to anyone who is not logged in but, an email address and password is required to continue with the RR

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 7 Feb 2017 11:50

And there are people with multiple accounts. All it needs is an email address. It should be limited to paying members.

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 7 Feb 2017 13:42

I agree it should be limited to paying members.

I sometimes feel it's not the debate/ subject that the RRer is against
but some members who are debating.

I think your right Emma :-D :-D

Guinevere Report 7 Feb 2017 13:51

Good to see my reported post has been restored on another thread. At least GR are looking at what's been reported.

Caroline

Caroline Report 7 Feb 2017 15:44

Whereas in the recent past they just deleted the thread not actually look at it . So well done to them for actually looking at them now, does this mean one person is doing this and will get "told off" or are there a lot of people RRing at the moment, as that one thread had what four RR in the space of a few days.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 7 Feb 2017 15:52

I sometimes wonder if members from years ago still lurk and enjoy trying to cause a ruck.

Some of you may remember the 1000 post thread about the Welsh clergyman who refused to be served by an English speaking shop assistant.

I had about 80 of my posts RRd on that thread and GR agreed they were all malicious and took the problem seriously.

It became a running joke as to how many of my posts would actually stay for more than 10 minutes.

Damned annoying, the person/s may not like me but in the end THEY became the subject of ridicule for being a complete twit!

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Caroline but people do lynch folk, just because they find somthing unacceptable for a chat board, sadly on here folks opinions can change daily depending on who there friends with thay day, sad really but thats life,

the rr button has been a subject many a times and i find the more it annoys folks, n provokes threads the more it happens sadly.

However its really not important,

yes guinevere, i do somtimes think its old memebrs lurking or free accounts, however it could be an exsisting member whos easily offended also, we can speculate till the cows come home, we are not guna ever no for sure, and does it really matter?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 7 Feb 2017 20:42

It matters if GR don't take action to deter abuse of the button. Only allowing paying members to report would be a great start.

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 7 Feb 2017 20:46

I agree it should be paying members only, however i dont think thay would change anything

Caroline

Caroline Report 7 Feb 2017 21:20

I think if it were paying members only allowed to RR then Genes could stop their membership with no refund so that would stop most if not all abuse.
