My internet connection has sometimes been slow or inconsistent.
I think BT are working in the neighbourhood installing their TV line.

It's just mind blowing with all these different providers who to go with. No one knows what kind of service they are going to receive, it's just trial and error but so dam frustrating at times. Like us folks haven't got better things to do with our lives but chase companies who aren't providing a great service. As before, if we stopped our direct debits they'd soon be on our tails for payment, yet they deliver a poor service, we still pay and they're not fussed about sorting their problems out. and we are stuck with a poor or non existent service.

I've been with the same company since going online with few problems.
It was originally Freeserve then became Wanadoo; then Orange and then EE (which is now part of BT). (If I remember the sequence correctly).
I swapped the landline from BT at some point as BT was costing around £30 a month..
However, when it was Wanadoo (I think) it incuded an internet phone connection which was withdrawn when it became Orange BUT in compensation we got a landline with inclusive 24/7 calls up to an hour, calls to mobiles included, plus broadband - all for £20 a month.
Just hope BT don't work out what a good deal we have through EE and renege on the contract!

It seems you hit a brick wall, Kathryn. I have been with Talktalk for several years now and, like Rollo, I have had a good response on the handful of times I have needed to contact them. I have recently begun a new contract with them and I think I got a bargain.

My first experience, umpteen years ago, was with Cable & Wireless. I only moved because I had to due to a takeover.

I think I have been lucky so far, thank goodness, so I hope you find a package that works for you and that you are happy with.

Thank you. I can't believe how some companies treat their customers, well I can now. Shirley, thanks for your input too.

Well our grandson had no end of trouble with talk talk for his mobile phone

They kept aggreeing they were wrongly charging and would sort it but they still kept demanding the overcharge

What annoyed him was that he had to go through it time and time again as every time he rang he spoke to a differentcustomer service reps
Every time they said oh yes can see the problem and will sort it

He has got fed up and changed the provider and put the amount in dispute with his credit card company

Good morning all,

Apologies for the delay in adding to this thread. It's been manic at work all week and I've been working late.

I wrote to Talk Talk, have not had a response as yet. I phoned them also and was told that my Contract ends at the end of this month and that if I was not happy then I should change providers, bloody cheek. On another note and touch wood, the Internet connection from Talk Talk has been fine all week, no intermittent connection and no Internet at all. Not sure if I've spoken too soon. Hopefully I will get some written explanation from them in due course. Am sure if I stopped paying my direct debit they'd be on my case pretty dam quick. Thank you all for your input and advice. If I get a written response from them I'll let you know. Even though the connection has been working perfectly for the last week am still undecided as to whether or not to change providers at the end of this month.

Regards

Kathryn

Our BT Infinity connection gradually deteriorated over a period of twelve months. We reported it using the on-line reporting service and a guy came out within a couple of days.

He replaced the faceplate, which turned out to be unnecessary as I had already done that a couple of years back to no avail. He then checked the cable where it entered the house and found the connection was corroded.

He went on to explain that back in the 1980's when house was built it was common for the cable tail leading into your house to simply be joined to the cable from the cabinet by twisting the wires together.

Wonder it lasted that long.....!

It wouldn't have mattered which ISP I had been with, the problem would have still been there. This is why sometimes just changing ISP's brings no improvement.

Rollo,
I understand that there may be a known issue but, we have had the router for about 2yrs and haven't really had any issues.

I don't understand why we have been losing connection ( up to 60 mins at a time) during the same 90 minute period, each night, for the last week?

GLASGOWLASS the daily dropped connection bug with Infinity is well known. BT do not seem to have a fix. The problem is with the router firmware.
Fix1: factory reset, chance of success 50%, however the next auto update will prob revert the drop out
Fix2: get a better router eg Asus new £ 150 half that on eBay, chance of success 100% but you will lose what B T calls support
Fix3: change Isp, chance of a new hassle 25%
Good luck

We have BT Broadband ( Infinity) and we are happy with our service but, over the last 7 days or so, we seem to lose Wi Fi connection at roughly the same time each evening.

It's always between 6 &7pm that the router light turns red.
It will turn back to blue very quickly but, as soon as anyone attempts to connect via Wi Fi, it cuts out again?

By 7.30pm it is always rectified.

RolloTheRed

RolloTheRed Report 20 Feb 2017 08:12

The new router is listed at £ 79 as an upgrade but free if you ug to TT Fibre.
fibre is £ 28 per month Inc the £13 phone charge. Security software free.
apart from Virgin fibre means copper to the cabinet then fibre. Strong poss of needing an Openreach phone socket Ug for any fibre based connection.
2.4 G router wifi does not work v well with solid walls wherever you put the router. 5 G far better cos it bounces the signal. Otoh 2.4 range is better. Most dual band routers provide both options concurrently.
Pure copper trad connections degrade rapidly with distance from the exchange regardless of Isp.

Talktalk have a new dual band router 2.4 / 5 Ghz available. 5 Ghz is much better inside houses.

We are with BT and quite satisfied. They are very good if anything goes wrong - just a quick phone call, and, if necessary, they will take over your computer and fix it.
