Sharron

Sharron Report 4 Apr 2017 13:08

I am sixty-four, the same age at which my great-great -grandfather died very suddenly, in fact he dropped dead.

Don't think it will happen to me because I won't even be climbing any trees like that silly old sod did! The vicar's apple tree I believe.

By dropping dead do you mean he dropped from the tree ?

Sharron

Sharron Report 4 Apr 2017 13:49

I do indeed, on his head, silly old sod!

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 13:51

Sorry but I have to admit that's sad but funny in many ways....what was he doing up a tree;vicars or otherwise; at that age?!!

Sharron

Sharron Report 4 Apr 2017 14:34

Precisely!

Well when my elder sister passed in 2002 my younger sister said you are the eldest now .

Seemed to be saying it's your turn next!!!

I said. Nope I will never be the eldest still nos 4,!!

But I have long gone past the family history of late 60's early 70's to pop off thank goodness

Historically, apple trees have a tarnished name as far as accidents & other sordid happenings are concerned.

Look what happened to Adam & Eve in their unfortunate episode of eating an apple in the Garden of Eden. Ignore the cold slimy slithering snake's version of events.

Sharron Report 4 Apr 2017 16:17

It wasn't that far back Dermot.

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 17:36

Are we maybe getting hooked up on the fact it was an apple tree ?....if he was crazy enough to climb a tree then it was only a matter of time before he did something stupid :-D

Apple trees did Isaac Newton no harm. A graft of the original tree is still growing. seems to me that Newton had the better understanding of which way is up.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 18:34

How tall was the tree Sharron and was he pruning it ?

Sharron

Sharron Report 4 Apr 2017 18:57

I don't know the details. I just know I am the same age and I am not going to climb one.

Caroline

Caroline Report 4 Apr 2017 18:58

The best twist to the story then would be he was up there stealing the vicars apples :-D

Ummmm one of my GG uncles died at an RAOB meeting.
I've never become a member :-(

He was in his late 70's, apparently P*ssed as a newt, and fell down the (very)steep stairs.
I went on some 'genealogy' research to the pub (Freemantle Arms to be precise)
When he heard, the landlord took me up the same stairs gg uncle John fell down, and showed me the peep hole in the door where the 'Buffs' held their meetings.
THEN he explained how pubs used to be laid out (by using the ceiling beams), with the smoking area totally cut off from the rest of the pub - and the bar!
There was a hatch door.
If you were in the smoking area and wanted a drink, you opened the hatch to order, then closed it..

So if a bull in a China shop is not good obviously a Buffalo in a pub isn't wise either.

Allan

Allan Report 4 Apr 2017 22:21

Nearly as bad as the Freemasons :-D

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 00:35

But would a freemason have time to get so drunk what with all those weird handshakes and all :-S

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 5 Apr 2017 00:39

True, Caroline, mine were Buffs and Oddfellows (poor man's Mason, I believe) - But I bet it left a hand free for the pint!!

Allan

Allan Report 5 Apr 2017 00:42

It's surprising what a good Freemason (as well as bad ones) can get up to :-D

There have been complaints of Rowdy and raucous behaviour after the lodges have closed :-0

Caroline

Caroline Report 5 Apr 2017 00:46

So Allan please tell what can an average Freemason get up to ?
