June Looks like I've fell in the trap So off to the corner wearing naughty cap.. A little story for you which is true, a well known comical character who lived in our village was once sent to an engineering firm by the local labour exchange with a view to getting a job. When he met the personnel manager he said, 'I dont' understand why the dole have sent me here because your ad says that you're looking for millers and turners and my name is Smith. Jef lol

my 1st job was training as a milliner, mostly on a sewing machine, i was there 18mths when another firm took over[hats were going out of fashion] this new boss called me into the office one day and gave me my cards and said i wasn't cut out for that kind of work! now, don't forget i'd been there 18mths and had no complaints from the other boss about my work! i was heart broken,i loved that job! i went home and cried my eyes out! 3 weeks after that i heard they had gone bankrupt! then i realised why they got rid of me,they would of had to pay me redundency!! i was only 17, if i'd known then what i know now 'as they say!' after that i had various jobs: printers-making booklets, draw tickets etc,etc various machinist jobs: toy factory, making mens trousers--putting the flies in!! making overalls years later i found another millinery place and went for a job there and some of the people who were in my first job were there! i was there 18mths when they decided they didn't want hats making anymore. i also worked in Butlins for a season as a chalet maid. in recent years i have worked in hospitals and a hospice as a domestic. there are more! packer--making boxs and the packing for fish fingers, ice scream etc, etc. i went from one job to another after my first job experience, knocked my confidence for a bit! but then there were jobs to be had,you could finish in one friday and start in another monday!!

Part time shop assistant in local chemist, haberdashers etc.from the age of 14? whenever it was legal lol Clerical assistant/receptionist/telephonist at hauliers when first left school, moved on after 6 months as the drivers scared the life out this then timid little mouse! Clerical assistant, etc etc at local garage and car sales, secretary/deputy manager at Sweda cash registers, temping in various offices in between, also waitress in Wimpy bars in evenings, all in Norwich. Receptionist/telephonist at Food Research Institute, then left to do a summer season in Bracklesham Bay as a waitress, back to Norwich and temped at local engineering company L.S.E. in Work Study Dept. then moved on to Cambridge temping then audio typist in Garden centre, then Clerical officer at Cambridge Water co, back to Norwich, waitress in the Buttery Bar at Hotel Nelson (brand new Scandinavian styled hotel) then clerical officer/typist in Housing dept of S. Norfolk District council, left to have my daughter but she was born prematurely and died, secretary/receptionist at U.E.A. Secretary receptionist at Business transfer agents, which later closed Norwich branch, secretary to Private Investigator and did a bit of P.I. work too, part time bar maid in various Norwich pubs and nightclubs in evenings, then British Rail took me on in the Red Star office, moved on to Freight office on a promotion, also did jewellery partyplan then had my son, continued to do partyplan then did child minding, and one day a week in a friend's shop selling terracotta pots and plants, candles, relaxation tapes etc, then cleaning for elderly neighbours and managed three student houses belonging to a friend. Was a full time mum and also carer for my elderly parents, before they died. Now just doing one student house and clean at one home of two elderly sisters I have known since I was 11. Will be 60 in July but will probably carry on at old dears till they leave the sheltered housing flat- both over 80 now. Probably missed some jobs out, oh yes, Saturday morning boat cleaning for a while. I was lucky that it was during the time when if you were fed up with a job, you just went out and got another, gave a week's notice to the old boss and off you went. Liz
