Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 26 Nov 2006 02:02

Goodnight all Thanks for a nice evening. Bit of a film buff especially with the old films which I love, so quite happy to trawl for some quizzes, old or new, if it adds a bit of fun to the threads. See you all later. Aileen xxx

There's a few that I'm not sure about because I've guessed but the questions that I haven't an answer for are: 3 6 8 15 16 17 21 25 The annoying thing some answers are on the tip of my tongue! Aileen will come back at some point with the definitive list of what needs to be answered.

25 This is really bugging me now. She had blonde hair most of the time. she didn't get many parts after the Hitchcok films as Hitchock held a grudge against her. She didn't get any serious roles after that.

15 is bugging me as well, .....oh is the the same person that wrote Rebecca and the birds - iss it daphne du maurier? That came to me like a flash. I knew that I hadn't read Jamaca Inn but knew I had read a book or two by the author. I thought it was someone male but it just came to me then.

18. Hitchcock freely adapted John Buchan's novel for his film The Thirty-Nine Steps. What are the Thirty-Nine Steps ? Sorry Aileen I thought I had answered this. The memory man who used to perform on stage at theatres stored a blueprint/formula in 39 steps or stages for a secret plan, I think it was for a plane that the Nazis wanted to steal

Hi Aileen Which version of the 39 steps are you referring to? I think the ring of spies does refer to the book, called after the steps to the quay/jetty or soemthing like that - it's been a while since I've read it. However, in the hitchcock version, I'm sure the german spies were involved trying to keep hold of the 39 steps (the secret plans/formula) I'll have to google it and see. Carosel! Isn't that a musical? lol. It's a shame I thought a ghost train would be more fitting. lol Still cannot remember Melaie Griffiths' mum.

She leads them to Mr. Memory's show at the London Palladium, where the police close in on the fugitive. When the performer is introduced, Hannay recognizes his theme music - it's the annoyingly catchy tune he hasn't been able to forget for days. Hannay puts two and two together and realises that Mr. Memory is how the spies are smuggling the secrets out: he has them memorized. As the police take him into custody, he shouts out a question about the 39 Steps. When Mr. Memory compulsively begins to answer, Jordan shoots him and tries to flee, but is apprehended. The dying Mr. Memory recites the information stored in his brain, a design for silent aircraft, and Hannay and the girl stroll off, hand in hand. from wikipedia However, maybe I misinterpreted the film, I always assumed that the 39 steps related to the aircraft plan not the spy network as he provided the formula rather than their names when asked what are the 39 steps. However, as you say, the book refers to the spy ring which they named after the place where they caught the boat.
