Regarding the 'spam' emails many of us have received in the past 24 hours, using our private email addresses but with the addition of our GR user names, I complained to GR and this is the reply I've just received: 'Thanks for your email. I can assure you that your email address and contact details are secure on Genes Reunited, please check that your spam/virus protection is updated. Best regards, Abuse Administrator The Genes Support Team' This beggars belief; as per usual they are trying to blame us! I will definitely be taking this matter much further. Mandy :( |

Peter Quite a lot of us received 'spam' emails yesterday advertising a dating site, sent to our private email addresses (not our GR inboxes) but with our GR user name in the subject line. There are a couple of threads about them - one by Gwen Dragonfly - have a scroll down and read. Mandy |

Well, Mandy, so far I have not received a reply to my two emails complaining about the spam emails. I suppose there is no point about keeping complaining as it never gets us anywhere with GR. There must be another way. |

I should think that they ARE looking into it. they probably are just a teeny bit pushed at the moment, give em a minute or too... Bob an after thought, have the affected persons even LOOKED at the dating site? it may be possible that thats how your board name gets picked up? Is it a coincidence, is it only female members getting these emails? |

I haven't had a mail, Mandy, but I'm pretty horrified about it. Men *have* also received the emails. Gwynne |

Unfortunately I do believe it Mandy! It's the same old dismissive attitude we have come to expect from GR. They aren't interested in anything other than taking our money off us. Like Mo, I'm hoping that there is another way something can be done. Jeanette x |

I have suddenly been inundated with spam all saying coming from names that fit with my tree Peter/ Robert/ etc though did get one from a name that is a name on the boards. This lady isn't in my contacts so why put her to me? Mine aren't dating but health shops. Won't bounce back so just deleting them . Pain they are. Germaine x |

I haven't heard anything from GR as yet, but agree that it must have something to do with the site, as it is what we all have in common. Lynda x |

I have also received the dating spam email and according to my son I have the most up to date virus protection there is. Forgive my ignorance but does this mean that anyone can also get our debit/credit card details that we used when we paid our suscription. |

Howie The email advertising the freinds reunited dating site is genuine - I got one of those a few weeks ago. The dating site advertised on these latest emails does not appear to be connected to GR (and why would they advertise the competition?) I've still not had a reply to my message to GR - what a surprise. I wonder how they 'know' that our email addys are secure - when they obviously aren't????. |

I am wondering if any of you affected have had previous contact with each other through GR or a common contact - i.e a name collector? There were some postings some time ago about a name-collector with tens of thousands on their tree contacting members out of the blue? Have any of you had any other strange message experiences whilst using GR? Jay |
