As promised earlier - it may be of use

Evelyn - I saw something yesterday which may help - now where was it.
No lost it again. It was something about a programme on Radio 4 I think.
Where you can submit your question to a programme like WDYTYA and they look it over and see if they think it will make a good programme & they take up the challeng for you.

FOUND IT EVELYN

Radio 4 Tracing your roots. If they think you have an interesting problem they will submit it to a team of professional genealogists for you. I think its worth a try. They can only say no. You can contact the programme makers at

[email protected]

Its on at 4:30 on 31st August - no harm in giving it a go. Lay on the sob story - OAP needs to find out about her mother etc.

Go on girl give it a go before you leave on holiday - just copy and paste over your details and what you have.

http://www.ceuig.com/?s=school
Some of the school photos have names with them,
I wondered if there is any one you can email on this site to put a message on there if its the right area?

Hi Evelyn I see you have gone to France, anyway not important but just to see if you had read the posts on the MacLeod family from Stornoway on Rootschat in Nov 2006, there are a few photo's of the family, you could check for family resemblances I suppose.

I have been searching for any deaths of women in Inverness areas to try and tie in with Diane being sent to live in Stornoway, Diane told Evelyn she played on the Peat fields with her cousins in Stornoway. I have come to the conclusion that Diane's mother might have died for her to have been sent to live with relatives in Storoway to care for her.

In my search I have come across a lady called Lizzie Leslie who died in 1910 aged 23 in Inverness who I have been trying to rule out as Diane's mother, it states that Lizzie was married to James Gilchrist but I cannot find a marriage. I'm trying to keep an open mind and It makes you wonder if Diane's mother just had a brief relationship with a soldier based at the barracks in Inverness. And as no birth for Diane has been found she could of been told her fathers name when growing up and decided to change her name to MacLeod. I have had to rule out Diane being born in India as it simply does not fit with Seaforth highlanders but maybe there is an India connection somewhere, it could be that Robert was born in India and the story has been muddled somewhere along the line. I am also interested in Mary Leslie born 1907 in Alvie Inverness but I am slowly ruling her out as I have details of her mother and father although I have found no marriage or death details for Mary at the moment.

I am also trying to follow some female MacLeod children born 1906 and ruling them out and same with Leslie. Slow process but if each one is ruled out by marriage or death we might get there.

Does anyone know if on Scotlands People an adopted child's original birth certificate shows the area where the child was registered. I have come across a few female MacLeod births with no area registered its just a blank space.

Hello Everyone,
I am in France at the moment and not always able to get on line, its nice to see that people are still trying to help me.
Thank you so much Tracey for all your efforts on my behalf you are very kind and I appreciate it very much
I have studied the faces of lots of old photos trying to see some family resemblance so far no luck but I will keep looking. Plenty of Macleods but was that really Dianes real name? Such a puzzle.
Once again thank you everyone
Evelyn

Tracey, I have been trying to convert Evelyn to Rootschat for a while. Would be willing to put the query on there myself but the story is a bit convoluted and I'd be bound to get it wrong somewhere.

Didn't Debbie come up with a good idea a few days ago Evelyn?
I think she suggested something like putting down the basic facts as you know them and see where we can get from there. If you could do that, I'll willingly have a go on Rootschat for you.

I'll go and see if I can see the photos on there now.
