Find Ancestors

trying to find any relatives of Benjamin Thomas, his parents were Shem and Cassandra Thomas nee Winson.
All I know is that he was born after 1901 census either Lancashire, Cheshire or Wales. He was the informant on Cassandra's death cert in 1923 at the time they were living at 22 Helmingham Road Tranmere Birkenhead Wirral.
Sorry that's all the info I have on him, apart from he had a sister Dorothy Mildred Audrey Thomas born 1900 died 1908 in S. Wales. He also had a half brother Alfred Edgar Winson my G grandfather, 4 half brothers and 2 half sisters from his father's first marriage.

When was your g. grandfather, Alfred Edgar Winson born? Sounds as if he was a son of Cassandra before she married Shem in 1899 but if that's the case where was he on the 1901 census?

Edit, just had a thought, was he Alfred Edgar Winson Thomas?

Yes that's them in 1901, they were in Rhonda in 1908 when Dorothy died, then in Birkenhead wirral when Cassandra died in 1923 then I found a death for Shem in 1933 in Bridgend. So Benjamin could have been born anywhere!!

Thanks for your info yes that's their marriage I have the certificate and that's Shem with 1st wife Harriet in 1891 she died in 1893. Shem was a coal miner so I guess he went where the work was.
My G grandfather Alfred Edgar Winson was born 11/1/1885 L'pool the son of Cassandra, I have his birth cert but there's no father listed! on the census index his father's name is down as George ( Cassandra's brother )
On 1901 census he's living with Cassandra's sister Millicent Lawless and her family in Bebington Wirral. George is also living there, they are both gardeners.
I think I may have to wait for 1911 census to find out about Benjamin!

I've bought credits for 1911 census, but unfortunately can't find them. They must be still in Wales and I've heard it's not on yet, is that correct. Does anyone know when it'll be done??

Had he been estranged from his wife/family, he might have reported single. Or had he been away from home, the HOH might have ...

edit - my theory would work particularly well if Shem and Cassandra were estranged and she were living with another man under his surname ... except that I can find but one Ben* born 1901-1011 living with a Cass* of the rightish age, and they're in Derbyshire and I've found the marriage to account for them ...

Yes that's the one, never thought about that Janey, I'll have a look. What I'm most interested in is finding Cassandra and hopefully Ben, but with a name like Thomas ahhhhh wish they were still Winson that was much easier ( although saying that it was mispelt for Monson in 1881!.
