Keeping fingers crossed that whoever copied the certificate details made a mistake. This happened to me......my Grandmother married Thomas but on one of the childrens birth certificates the father was listed as James and I accepted it thinking that as we are a pretty mixed up family they had guessed fathers name . But on Ancestry London births, the original birth entry clearly states Thomas so whoever copies out these certificates are not always 100%.

I have read that the naming pattern can help when trying to identify family so for any one trying to help, the names of James and Emily's children were:

Emily Ann
Abraham
James
Sophia
Elsie May
George

According to the 1911 census they had had 6 children one of whom died and luckily the named Sophia who had died in 1894 aged 1.

Emily's parents were William and Sarah so no children named after them.

I've just received an e-mail from the GRO.

Someone has checked the entry and the name does appear to be Daniel which is how I have read it.

Can someone please advise me the best course of action in trying to identify the birth or census entry of my James Garratt.
