I have an uncle who was from Scotland (Glasgow), his name was
David Gilfillan Hannah, he was born on 16 February 1921, he married Louie Dunn in South Shields, Durham in Apr/May/June 1946. I don't have any further information so I don't know where to start to find his family. I know Dave was posted to India in WWII.

Any help would be great

I have Robert Cock born 1689 in Clackmannan Perthshire, he married Euphan Ruthven, they had 7 children one of whom was Charles Cock born 1786 in Alloa Clackmannan. Does anyone know any other details please, I know that in 1815 he lived in Ashton=under=Lyne Lancashire but do not know when he left Scotland. Later in the Census the name became COX so obviously a spelling error way back. Joyce Cox

Hi Anthony,
Was wondering if you could help me find this couples marriage I have a Ann Henderson born 20th sept.1838 and a James Sim born c 1838. According to their son Edward's birth cert. they married in Longside Aberdeen 14th June 1856. Their first son was James Sim born 17 feb 1857 at Peterhead Burgh, Aberdenshire. All their children were registered, and I have them on all the census's from 1861 on. I have their death certs. but I would like to find their marriage I have tried Scotlands People and there is nothing there for this couple. I was hoping to get further back with James Sim as his death cert. only shows a possible father Alexander Sim, not much to go on. If I could find their marriage cert.I was hoping to get more information from that to help me go further back I have all Ann Hendersons info further back.
Any help would be most appreciated Brenda.

Hello Anthony
Thank for offer of look ups for Scotland.
I wonder if you can find the marriage of Michael Dunn and Amelia Fiddes b 1835 Aberdeen, parents as shown on their daughter Mary's marriage cert. I don't know the date but daughter Mary was born 1853 in Dundee so I'm assuming that was where they married too.
Please don't waste a lot of your time on this as I realise that my information is scanty!
Thanks
Ann

Hi Anthony,
Do I ever need help with my Scottish roots! My great great grandmother was Mary Cameron born may 21 1834 in Gorbals Glasgow according to Scotlands People. She married William Steele on Feb 26th 1854 in Glasgow. At least two of her offspring emigrated to NZ and eventually there was me. I am trying to find her parents and siblings. I believe her father was a Donald Cameron, there were at least 4 other siblings of which two were twins. Not much to go on, Can you help?
cheers

Hi Anthony,

I wonder if you could help us please?

I am trying to help my friend trace her Grandparents and great grandparents. We have hit a wall concerning the Grandfather and can't get back any further. This is what we already know:-

Elizabeth Watson (c1891 Glasgow) and Herbert Walter Stewart (1877) had these children between them

Gertrude 22/7/1917
Grace 7/7/1919
Elizabeth
Helen 14/6/1916
Robert

We have a date of 17/8/1914 for a wedding in Kinlochleven but haven't actually found a marriage certificate for them; it is possible this is fictitious. We think they lived in Glasgow. We can't find a birth cert for Herbert or any parents for him.
Please help us if you can!!

Thank you very much for your help

Siobhan

Hi Anthony

Is there any chance you could look for George and Anne Willis they lived in Blantyre. Their Daughter my great greatmother Sarah Willis married a Thomas Joseph Colligan (Irish) on the 31 March 1908. I can't find anything for her parents before or after Sarah's Wedding. My grandmother Helen Colligan was born 3 Jan 1911 in Blantyre.

Thsnks for any help you can give.

Hi
I'm trying to trace any information on my grandmother, Mary Weir, born in 1871 in the Whitburn/Linlithgow area. She came to Derbyshire as a servant and met and married my grandfather. Although her name and date of birth is all that I know I think she had brothers and/or sisters as I have some family letters from the 1950's mentioning kinship/friendship but no specific information.

Thank you

Janine

Hi Anthony,

I would like to find the details of a marriage in Scotland dated 1844. It is on the IGI, but the fathers' names are not given. I see the Scotlandspeople website only has marriages from 1855. Do you know if there is any way to find further details?

Thank you,

Debbe

Hi,
While you are all waiting for help like myself I thought you might like these useful web addresses I have found many an ancester on these.

1. good for finding births/ marriages if you know the parish and surname.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm

2. This has some of the census's for Scotland better in the early years and better than some of the transcriptions on ancestry, also births and marriages. This site is growing all the time.

http://www.scotlandsfamily.com/

3.Great if you are looking for someone from the Moray area. A lot of the area's history / people etc on here.
