Christopher - are you sure you posted the 1920 census - judging by the 1920 I found for James and Martha, it looks like the 1910 to me:

Ancestry also has James and his sister Mattie living in Sonoma Co in 1930.

Hi

What is the latest census you can get on line?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 19 Jan 2012 19:25

Gee

Gee Report 19 Jan 2012 20:02

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 19 Jan 2012 20:03

Gins - I've just been looking at that, I was really excited but then found out that it won't be indexed on-line then :-(

There are a number of organisations that are looking for volunteers to create a searcheable index.

Gee

Gee Report 19 Jan 2012 20:03

Yeah, not sure where and when it will come online but it wont be long :-D

mgnv Report 20 Jan 2012 02:11

Ancestry has abt 2800 people in Vallejo 1920 and 3100 in 1930, so 1940 will be a bit of a chore, but not insurmountable at abt 70 pages to go thru.

ooooh

the 1940 Census may help me with my great-aunt and her husband!

Are they still in New Jersey??

Is he still alive??

(I know she lived until the early 1950s, he died earlier)

Christopher Report 21 Jan 2012 11:37

Absolutley brilliant - as this helps in the formation of a theory about the movement of the family

Christopher

Christopher Report 21 Jan 2012 17:40

Further query - is there anyway of getting a better veiw of the 1870 census return.

Also - in trying to trace their port of entry i have looked at Print
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1882 - but it seems to be images only,. Has anybody done indexing fo this or are there plans to index it?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 21 Jan 2012 17:50

Christopher - which site are you using to look at the records?

There are numerous California Electoral Rolls for James caldwell Risk on Ancestry - do you have the details from these?

ADDED:

For example

California, Voter Registers, 1866-1898
Name: James Caldwell Risk
Residence Year: 1892
Residence Place: Sonoma, California < Penn's Grove
Age: 35
Birth Year: abt 1857

He was 5 ft 21/2 in tall, had fair skin, hazel eyes, brown hair, no distinguishing marks. He was naturalised May 30 1880 at Penn's Grove. He was a farmer from Ireland.

Also on the register were David Rankin Risk age 38 and William Bond Risk, age 29

MargaretM Report 21 Jan 2012 17:51

The 1870 census is relatively clear on Ancestry. Is there anything you need deciphering?
