Why do you think he was born in Bristol in view of that 1911 census?
Thanks

Are you certain of the middle name being Reginald ?

Just wondering about this birth

Derek Report 17 Aug 2012 23:33

Hi Patchem, my friend says the family are sure he came from Gloucestershire probably Bristol area. Would he have just put his birthplace in Canada on the census in error ?

Derek

Derek Report 17 Aug 2012 23:35

Reginald is what i was told his middle name was.

Andrew Report 17 Aug 2012 23:35

The whole page on 1911 Canada has been completed NB. COuld just be a lazy enumerator.

In your opening post you say he was believed to be an orphan was he ever in an orphanage?

If so try contacting Barnados/Quarriers who may have some info for you.

I traced my GG who at the age of 13 was sent to Canada by Barnados as a home boy and I have a copy of the page on the register which has given me lots of info.

Derek Report 17 Aug 2012 23:39

Details could be a match Andy. I will pass on to friend to see if any other names on census, fit in with her family tree. She says he was an orphan and probably went to Canada to seek his fortune.

Strange as nothing showing for James Reginald in births etc

Also nothing other than the birth of James Richard Belmont

Derek

Thank you all .

I will send info across to friend and see if it sparks further information. If info so far is confirmed, it will give a better route to searches in UK records.
