That's the one Dizzi, well found. I thought Pookhurst had to be a wrong transcription.

Now all we need to do is connect Mary Ann Luckhurst to James Gorham. I expect proving he was the father is nigh on impossible now. I doubt that any bastardy orders would still be around for that far back.

Thank you so much everyone, It seems this man James Pookhurst,Lockhurst,Luckhurst,Lucas Gorham has intrigued you all too.
He has recorded a James Luckhurst occ Plasterer on the marriage cert, though I do realise that people often made up fathers rather than admit not having one.
I still would love to know why he called himself Gorham.
