Just a tip.....

Don't ever tick a thread as "Answered" because you never know if further information can be found for you.

PH & Flip - Thanks both -You are absolutely spot on with the Belfast records - Amazed you have found them so readily! I am researching Jane Maddrell for my deceased Mum's best friend, granddaughter of Robert and Amy Smyth - also in the, perhaps sentimental, hope that, as she and I have Maddrell ancestors, I might be able to find a link on the IOM somewhere.

ArgyllGran - Yes I've been looking for the IOM - Sutherland link for a long time! I think you are probably right - Fishing was probably his trade which took him to Port St Mary - I guess - where he met my Gt Gt grandmother!

Astra, Reggie, Re William Maddrell's death. If correct might explain why there is no mention of him in the family bible. Jane Maddrell/Iddon would hardly have known him.

Prickles could very well be right that they moved back and forth to Ireland - as did my g-grandparents one minute they were having a child in Barrow/Dalton, next child Ireland and then back to Barrow, and throw in a couple in Scotland - it was difficult to keep track of them.
