Find Ancestors

I am searching for the parents and siblings of my great-grandfather. I have found a family that could be them:

William Lowe b. 1829 married Hannah Towers in 1850 at St Johns, Manchester.
Children: Elizabeth b. 1853, William H b. 1858, Sarah b. 1859, James b.1861.

I think this maybe the right family because of names. My grandmother was Sarah Hannah. I have been searching for a long time so if anyone is related that would be great.

Thanks Gins. That's very useful. Any idea how I can set about proving these are my ancestors. My grandmother, Sarah Hannah Lowe was born in 1878 to William Henry Lowe b.1858 and Martha Ashcroft. His father was William Lowe, iron turner. I got this info from Sarah and Martha's marriage cert. William Lowe is a common name in Lancashire hence I have come to a brick wall.

Yes, this is my family and I have all this information. William was not at home because (the story goes) he went to America or Canada with two married sisters and was to send for his family when he was settled. However, he came back around 1883/4 and they had another daughter.

That's another brick wall. I don't know the name of the sisters and have not been able to find him on a ship. At least not to confirm that it is the same person.

The only way we can know for sure if you have the correct ancestors is to work back from your parents. This means buying certificates or finding parish records

Thankyou. I have worked back from myself. I have the marriage cert of William Lowe and Martha Ashcroft, parents of Sarah Hannah and William's father is named as William Lowe, Iron turner. But this is where the trail goes cold as I have no other evidence for him. This name is common in Lancashire so I don't know which one is mine.

This is why I am wondering if the Lowe/Towers family could be mine. All I am going on is the approx date of birth of William, and Wm, his son ties in. Also the names of Hannah and Sarah are the names of my grandmother.

So I was hoping maybe someone related to this family could provide more info and either prove or disprove the relationship.

I don't think getting their marriage cert would prove anything and I wouldn't know which birth cert to get for Wm Lowe Snr. Any advice appreciated.

Maybe I am confused but...if you have traced back from your parents and have bought certificates, how could you not know if you have the right family?

Thank you for your patience. I don't seem to be explaining myself very well. If we forget the Lowe/Towers family. This is what I know:

Me - Diane Milner b. 1947 in York
My parents ; Herbert Milner and Winefred Humphrey of York
Father's parents : Thomas Milner and Sarah Hannah Lowe
Sarah's parents: William Henry Lowe b. 1858 in Lancashire died in York 1897 and Martha Jane Ashcroft
William's father: William Lowe, Iron turner (from marriage cert of William & Martha.
This is as far as I have got with the Lowes. I've got further back with the Ashcrofts.

There are a lot of William Lowe's born in Lancashire around the time mine would have been born so I have no way of determining which is mine.

Any suggestions as to where to go from here.

Has anyone been able to find William and Hannah or any of their children in 1871?

It looks as though there was an Isabella born about 1863, She's in Heywood with sister Sarah in 1881 (both boarders)...then a witness to Sarah's wedding.
