Hi Can anyone help with birth place of the above lady ? She was, living with and had children with William Sweeney in Burnley Lancashire in 1939 census. On her daughters, birth, Margaret June Sweeney born 1937, it says mums maiden name was Anderson. In 1939 she was calling herself Mary Quinn and down as married. But she never married William Sweeney. Please could anyone tell from the 1939 census where she was, born ? There, was, sone talk of her being from a,traveling family so not sure if that puts a spanner in the wirks . Thanks :-) :-S

Yes, saw that Anne Kennedy from Colne thing earlier but could not read all the article. I used to work in library in Colne so i can check that up in local paper . Was trying to find how Anne Kennedy was connected aunt wise. But could find no Quinn or Anderson marrying a Kennedy for maybe 1910 onwards. But will check Sweeney in case the Mary Anderson from Easington with mothers maiden name of Sweeney is the one . Just while we wait for wedding cert of William Quinn and Mary Anderson to come back ?? :-) Can anyone spot Mary Anderson maybe living Easington or Yorkshire in 1911 census. There may be too many possibles i guess :-)

Was any aunts or uncles mentioned by Margaret June.?
Anderson.Quinn and Sweeny all have Irish surname links.
Ann Kennedy was at the time housekeper to John Foley and his son John. again Foley is also has Irish links.

Had heard they were travellers. Think Margaret June never knew, her mum really . She left and obviously went back to Halifax, maybe returning to her husband ? William Sweeney brought her up. Don't think she had any contact after that. Don't think she knew where she had gone. Would love to know the Anne Kennedy connection. I am thinking more along the lines of it being the Mary Anderson with mothers, maiden name Sweeney because that may explain why she first came to live with the widiwed William Sweeney. She could be a,cousin cone to take care of the children ? Or are the children from the census , hers as,well as,William sweeneys ? :-S

a Foley family and Sweeney were known to each other so it seems.thats probaly how Ann Kennedy came to be John Foleys housekeeper.?

I've,discovered that Mary Anderson's dad was supposedly Edward Anderson on her marriage certificate to William Quinn in 1928. Edward Anderson was deceased and the marriage took place in Brighouse,at the registry office. Mary Anderson was a,hawker. Aged,18. William Quinn was 24. :-)

Just in case - Anderson, Foley, hawkers/pedlars.
I know she doesn't have a middle initial in any other record, so just a long shot. I haven't attempted to investigated her mother's marriage re father's name:
Mary Ellen Anderson in the 1911 England Census Name: Mary Ellen Anderson Age in 1911: 3/12 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1911 Gender: Female Birth Place: Ripon Civil Parish: Harrogate County/Island: Yorkshire-West Riding Country: England Street address: 6 Grobe Place [Grove] Registration district: Knaresborough Registration District Number: 489 Sub-registration district: Harrogate ED, institution, or vessel: 22 Piece: 25927 Household Members: Name Age Ells Charles Ward 24 - pedlar Charles Ratcliffe 58 - pedlar William Anderson 26 - married, pedlar , traveller, Ripon <<<<<<<<<<<<<< Martha Anderson 21 - married, hawker , traveller, Ripon <<<<<<<<<<<< Peter Foley 26 - single, pedlar, traveller, Grimsby <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< William Thos Battison 36 - painter Harriet Battison 37 - needle worker Thomas Battison 15/12 Marin [Maria ] Anderson 20 - married, pedlar, traveller, Knaresboro <<<<< Mary Ellen Anderson 3/12 - <<<<<<<<<<<<<< William Hudson 40 - traveller J William Thorn 50 - French polisher Jane Thorn 47 - French polisher Edward Kilvington 70 - out porter

So thinking maybe Maria, her mother even though birth of Mary is a bit earlier. She defibately born January 1911 . As from 1939 census. And when got her marriage certificate it definitely said Edward Anderson deceased. So maybe Edward was dad but had died by 1911 even :-)

Possible - but only a long shot, as I said.
No middle name for Mary in any of the other records. Maria (or Alphonso) doesn't say she's widowed.- but that proves nothing. She may not have been married at all, but just said so for respectability.
IF she was married, there are several marriages of Edward Andersons to women called Mary - none in Harrogate area - but as they were travellers, they could have married anywhere.
I can't see an obvious birth of Mary in Ripon.
I haven't been able to find William Anderson with any certainty in earlier censuses, to see if he had a brother Edward. Nor even his birth in Ripon or area.

Shirley ............
just so you know, the 1939 Register gives no inkling as to where anyone was born.
It was a register of full names, ages, current address, and occupation
It was used as the basis for issuing ID cards for use in WW2, and then later as the basis for the NHS records
So the one piece of information that many of us would like for certain people was never even entered or asked.
