Yes very frustrating that. Rumour was that Annie , Mary Quinn nee anderson,s daughter was born or lived in a caravan. William on the marriage cert. Was a scissor grinder and Mary a hawker . Had so wanted dad to be James . Maybe will get some blues from Mary's death certificate perhaps? I was thinking that if she was used to the gypsy way of life she may have left to go back to that when she left William Sweeney with the children and disappeared. . Don't think they knew what happened to her at all. Maybe William Sweeney did and did not say anything to the children . Sad story. :-S

Woukd it be possible to find out who Ann Kennedy was married to ? Just thinking that f Ann was aunt of Mary Quinn nee Anderson she could either be previously a Quinn or an Anderson.she is 21 years older than Mary so seems,to be of her parents generation, so maybe sister of her mum or dad ? This may help with discovering who the parents are of Mary Quinn nee Anderson ? :-S

As you've already discovered for yourself, Shirley, there were no marriages of an Ann(e) Anderson to a Kennedy, 1905-1933.

Nor of an Ann Quinn to a Kennedy - though that would make her an aunt-in-law.

So if she really was an aunt, she must have been on Mary's mother's side of the family - but we don't know the mother's name, so can't identify a marriage.

There were no Kennedys at 19 Lister Street in 1939 - so that's no help.

Yes very frustrating. Think maybe have to read the full article then might find a clue. Or maybe get Mary Quinn's death certificate and see if it throws up something. Irs such a shame that the 1939 didn't have place of birth. I still have a gut feeling about the Easington Mary with maiden name Sweeney. Maybe James was called James Edward ..long shot or slim chance but i can dream ??

Foiled again. Colne,s electoral registers from the twenties and thirties were destroyed by fire and there are no copies anywhere. Should have remembered that as worked there 27 years. :-S
Checked the trade directories but no joy. But i am not giving up.
Thanks
Shirley :-)
