Hi all am looking to find info on thomas bradford born oakthorpe c1820 married elizabeth unknown surname and date. Together they had children: ann 1848, Joseph 1857, Henry 1859, John 1860, thomas 1862, mary 1864 and elizabeth 1868. Am trying to find thomas 1820 parents, birth, marriage and elizabeths surname just any help would be brilliant with this really. Many thanks

im not sure perhpas from a different mother as there is no wife ann(e) seems right same year of birth and place same father info also thomas 1820 i did wonder why a gap of nearly 10 years between children ann 1848 and jospeh 1857 whom is the next i have

I think this is his first marriage to Mary Hart. Name: Thomas Bradford & Mary Hart Year of Registration: 1843 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Ashby DE LA Zouch County: Derbyshire, Leicestershire Volume: 15 Page: 9 NOTE!!!!! Just noticed in 1851, living next door to widowed Thomas is Elizabeth Smith! I think that would be enough to convince me that is who he married after Mary died. Up to you though. I think this is Thomas unmarried in 1841, occupation COLLIER. In 1851 his occupation is COAL MINER. Church Gresley Derbyshire Richd Bradford abt 1796 (HEAD) Image looks like MICK Mary Bradford abt 1801 (assume WIFE) I would assume that the rest are the children. mags question the 1841 when thomas is unmarried does the census state whos who like head son wife etc?

Unfortunately no, the 1841 census did not record any relationships. I'll go have a quick look to see what order they list them in, although that is no guarantee! Sometimes cousins are listed with the family and you have no way of knowing unless you find them with their parents in a later census! It can get a little confusing! I've checked the IGI too but I can't see the Bradfords on there at all. Just nice to be able to help, you take care Alexandra, I need to go for a bit but might be back later. Mags

i have also noticed in the 1901 they have emma there born 1875 now surname nicholas and her daughter caroline would like to find her husband , marriage and where he is possibly passed away??

Have updated the 1841 to put in the order listed, but can't say whether they are def. all children yet. Will look for them in 51 to see if any are still at home. Re the Nicholas marriage in 1901, the census still shows her as being married so they could just be visiting grannie whilst husband works away, or could be wrong and she IS widowed! Will check for marriage and see if I can find the husband for you. Mags

1851 for Thomas's Parents. Father has died, but Mary is actually living NEXT DOOR to Thomas with some of his siblings. They are listed as son/dau. So he has his Mum on one side, and future wife on the other. He didn't have to make much effort did he!!
