Arthur Michael Wright b.1890 Islington, London

Now you would of thought with him being a twin, that it would be so easy.. uh uh.

Twin was Francis Wright b1890 d.1891 after the census, as both are listed in 1891 as being 10 months old!

Arthur died in 1955 in Chatham, Kent and inbetween married Eliza Ambrose in 1924 and fathered 4 children, one of which is my dad!

The problem I'm facing is that I cannot track anyone from the family pre 1891.
Marraige cert states George Wright as he's father, and 1891 census says that Ellen Wright (b.1852c)was he's mother. So thought I would try to get he's birth cert and try again with what I get from there.

Other children in the 1891 census:
Eliza Wright b.1874c Marylebone
James Wright b.1879c Islington
and the twins.

I have tried searching for the children and Ellen who was also born in Marylebone, without success!

Help!

Sheena, did you find a birth reg for the twin? I mean Im just wondering if they were both just registered as "Male" Wright?

What is dads job shown as on the marriage cert?

Theres big gaps there between the kids.

Heather Report 22 Sep 2007 17:31

Sheena, you seemed to have missed off Thomas there and did you note that the mother and the eldest daughter are shown as paralysed? The mothers entry says paralysed from child (I firstly thought that would add birth! but nope - so Im not sure how bad the disability was - may be polio?)

1891:

Arthur Wright 10/12
Eliza Wright 17
Ellen Wright 39
Francis Wright 10/12
James Wright 12
Thomas Wright 7

Ellen is shown as a widow and from the ages of the kids I reckon she must have been married previously - possibly she maried Mr Wright between Thomas and the twins? Though equally possibly she may have lost one or more kids from sickness. If the kids are 10 months old - so born February 1890ish - then dad George must have been round within 9 months before then. So that would give you a time frame to look for his death.

Might have been better to nudge up your previous thread and alter the heading to read that help was still needed otherwise members will go over the same information that was provided before.

Sorry Glitter, but i thought best to start new thread as I am looking for birth, And infact not much information was available then, so going over the 1891 census which is all we have the mo, is no big loss!

I tried looking for birth's on both of the twins, but nothing. Sorry for missing Thomas, compleetly forgot about him, but I wasn't loking for him in the other census' as he would not have been born in 1881.

I have all the information from the 1891 census, including being paralyzed from birth etc.

Shirley you are correct with the death of Francis, I also have this in a cert. Just the births are a mystery!

In answer to your query of the marriage cert... I don't personally have it, but my cousin who does has told me that it was definetly George Wright as father.
He's been looking for George's death and is coming up blank... neither of us can find information on our grandfather Arthur.

Don't think they would of changed he's name.

From death cert:
Francis died aged 11mths on the 29th April 1891, so birth has to be around Feb/Mar 1890.
The address was 53 Campbell Road, Islington

Do you think I might be able to get this info at Kew?

Kew doesnt hold BMDS. as yet. the records are being transferred over to them, from the FRC Islington , gradually starting Oct but these are the manual ledgers that contain the pages showing GRO refs you see on Ancestry and find my past.
I have searched Ancestry looking at the scanned copies of the ledger pages and nothing found.
There aren't any missing pages so would say they weren't registered

No probs Mellie... as you say anything is worth a thought at the mo.

I've been banging my head over this for almost 2 months! So a few more isn't gonna hurt that much?
I hope!!

Why register a death if you haven't registered a birth?

It just doesn't seem right to me.

Saying that tho, my cousin mentioned that when Arthur died, they would of had to obtain a copy of he's birth to claim the one week pension... so it's got to be there somewhere!

MellieMob

MellieMob Report 22 Sep 2007 19:31

really silly question do you know ellens surname

Sheena

Sheena Report 22 Sep 2007 21:26

Sorry Mellie but I don't, that is main reason for finding the birth so I can get both parent's details.
I could of gone for the marraige, as I said before my cousin has this cert and it doesn't give mother's name only father's.

I tried looking at marriage's between George Wright and Ellen, but without knowing a rough timescale it is hard to predict.

With only having the 1891 census to go on, I don't know if there are/were any more children born before Eliza (b.1874)
But with Ellen being born 1852c in Marylebone, and not knowing where George was born.. it is like a needle in a haystack.

I did a search on George Wright's marrying an Ellen between 1862 & 1876

Marriages Mar 1862 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wright George Shoreditch 1c 248
Coveney Ellen Shoreditch 1c 248
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages Sep 1873 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WRIGHT George Alfred C St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 703
Waterman Ellen St. Geo. H. Sq. 1a 703
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marriages Sep 1874 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wright George Kensington 1a 79
Humphreys Ellen Eliza M A Kensington 1a 79

Now I agree I'm not the sharpest pencil in the case, but I'm ruling out the marriage in 1862 as my Ellen would of been 10 yrs old! But it's knowing which one of the 2 left are my great grandparents!

Otherwise I could be barking up the wrong tree.
My answer really lies in the birth cert!

Just a small point:

If they're 10 months in March that puts them born May or early June.

Hi there
Do you know what the occupation of George was and the location of the marriage and the dates of the marriage, I to have looked for the twins births and my assumption is that the ref for the birth of Arthur already given is him and they have written the wrong name down for Francis as the twin, Do you know about the LMA it is close to the FRC you can search for births, deaths, marriages & census records there for all of London. Its worth a try.
